Madrid To Host 2027 Champions League Final At Metropolitano Stadium

Spanish Football Federation confirms Atlético Madrid's venue beats Baku for prestigious event.

The President of the Spanish Football Federation has announced that the 2027 UEFA Champions League final will be hosted in Madrid, specifically at Atlético Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium. This decision comes after the stadium triumphed over the Baku Olympic Stadium in a competitive bid to host the prestigious event. Back in October 2024, Atlético Madrid put forth their stadium as a candidate for this honor.

Rafael Louzán, during a recent visit to the La Cartuja construction site, revealed this exciting decision. "This year, Spain will host the Europa League final at San Mamés, and we also have secured the 2027 Champions League final at Metropolitano in Madrid. Why not strive to have Seville host one of the upcoming European finals?" he suggested, expressing aspirations for Seville to be a future host city.

It’s worth noting that this will not be the first time the Metropolitano Stadium has hosted such significant European tournaments. Back in 2019, it was the venue for a thrilling final where Liverpool emerged victorious against Tottenham, claiming the Champions League trophy.

While Madrid celebrates this achievement, there lurks a cloud of uncertainty regarding the stadium's future in regard to the upcoming 2030 World Cup. Louzán hinted that the Metropolitano might lose its status as one of the venues for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain and Morocco. He stated, "Atlético Madrid, as always, would be generous enough to give up its spot if necessary for Valencia to become one of the eleven Spanish host cities for the tournament."

In addition to the announcements regarding the Champions League and World Cup, the upcoming finals for various league tournaments were also outlined. The 2025 Champions League final will take place in Munich at the Allianz Arena, with the following year's final set for Budapest at the Puskás Aréna. Meanwhile, the host for the 2027 Champions League final will be officially announced in May 2025.

In the Europa League, the 2025 final will be hosted in Bilbao at San Mamés, followed by Istanbul's Beşiktaş Park in 2026 and Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park in 2027.

For the Conference League, Wrocław at Tarczyński Arena will host the 2025 final, Leipzig's RB Arena will do the same in 2026, and Istanbul's Beşiktaş Park will take over in 2027.

Furthermore, the women’s competition will see the 2025 Champions League final held in Lisbon at Estádio José Alvalade, followed by Oslo's Ullevaal Stadion in 2026. Similar to the men’s event, the host for the women’s 2027 final will be disclosed in May 2025.

This revelation made by Louzán paints a promising picture for Spanish football as it positions itself as a prominent player in hosting prestigious international events, reflecting the country’s rich football heritage and robust infrastructural capabilities.

As Madrid prepares to showcase its hospitality and footballing prowess once again, the city looks forward to the energy and excitement that accompanies such a high-stakes event. The anticipation builds not only for the Champions League final but also for its role in the broader context of Spain's involvement in major international tournaments in the coming years.
