Louis Tomlinson Embraces India During Lollapalooza 2025

The former One Direction star explores local culture and cuisine, leaving fans excited for his return.

Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson recently made headlines during his vibrant visit to India, where he performed at the third edition of Lollapalooza Music Festival on March 9, 2025. Known for his catchy hits and captivating stage presence, Tomlinson charmed audiences with both classic One Direction tracks like 'Drag Me Down', 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go', and 'Night Changes', alongside his solo works such as 'Written All Over Your Face', 'Out of System', 'Saturdays', 'Back To You Now', and 'We Made It'.

Tomlinson relished the opportunity not just to perform but also to immerse himself in the local culture. He expressed his admiration for India, saying, "It's hot but great.. It's just quick flying in and out so it's a fast trip, but I'll be back, hopefully. I’m getting a beautiful vibe. Everyone feels happy. It's a good and infectious energy. I've not visited enough; that's why I must come back and spend more time outside of the gig,” which he shared during his interview with PTI.

Despite his tight schedule, he made the most of his time, exploring areas around the St. Regis hotel located in South Mumbai. "I was very British, and I found a few bars to watch football. So, that's nice. The food is great and delicious. I’m a big fan. I’ve only had butter chicken so far... I'm going to have an Indian feast (later)," he added, showing excitement for his culinary experience.

Tomlinson, who acknowledged his unfamiliarity with Bollywood films, recognized the global influence of Indian cinema, remarking on its "absolute colossal presence" around the world. He also chatted about how recent successful tours by artists like Ed Sheeran and Coldplay have opened doors for him and other international performers hoping to make their mark on Indian stages. "Seeing the massive tours of Coldplay and Ed Sheeran have done here makes you realize something significant is happening," he explained, emphasizing the positive changes for artists.

Reflecting on his musical influences, Tomlinson shared some personal backstory. "When I was 14, I was in a band at school. We didn't write our songs...but 70 percent of the covers were of Green Day at the time, who happened to be playing at the festival," referring to the iconic band’s presence at Lollapalooza, making his performance feel like coming full circle.

Despite the fleeting nature of his visit, Louis Tomlinson's engagement with Indian culture and his passion for music left fans yearning for more. His enthusiastic commentary and relishing of local flavors like butter chicken showcase the warmth and vibrancy of India. Many fans are likely already anticipating his return for what he describes as the infectious energy of the crowd and the welcoming atmosphere, which made this visit special.

Often hailed as one of the significant figures to emerge from One Direction, Tomlinson has carved out his unique path, demonstrating resilience and ambition. This trip marks not only another step in his burgeoning solo career but also highlights the growing importance of India on the global music scene.

With fans eager to see more international artists follow suit, Tomlinson’s positive experience at Lollapalooza offers hope for future concerts and cultural exchanges. His appreciation for Indian traditions, coupled with his ability to perform for enthusiastic crowds, positions him as both a key figure and ally to the growing music industry within India.

Indeed, this trip emphasizes the power of music to connect different cultures and the readiness of fans around the world to embrace artists who cross borders.
