Following recent devastating weather events across Indonesia, community organizations and government authorities are mobilizing to provide much-needed aid to those affected by flooding and other disasters. Recent incidents have left many families facing significant loss and disruption, and efforts to alleviate their suffering are underway.
On February 21, 2025, Pramuka Peduli Kwarran Srono, alongside local leaders, delivered assistance to residents and students impacted by serious flooding events in Situbondo. This initiative was spearheaded by Kak Hj. Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd, who expressed hope for the effectiveness of their aid. "Semoga apa yang kami berikan dapat bermanfaat bagi adik-adik dan warga yang terdampak bencana. Kami juga mengucapkan terima kasih kepada anggota Gerakan Pramuka Srono yang telah peduli terhadap sesama," said Kak Wahyuni, reflecting the spirit of solidarity among community members.
The aid included 55 packages of school supplies, featuring essentials such as notebooks, drawing books, rulers, pencils, and crayons, carefully curated to assist affected students. Additional support was provided through the delivery of 66 cooking kits and food packages to local residents, particularly families associated with four elementary schools and those living in Dusun Rajek Wesi.
To adequately respond to urgent needs, Kak Yuni Angelia, M.Pd., Vice Chairperson of the Pramuka Srono Organization, coordinated with Situbondo's Department of Social Affairs. She emphasized the organization’s goal to deliver assistance swiftly and effectively. "Kami berharap bantuan ini tepat sasaran dan tepat guna. Oleh karena itu, kami melakukan pemetaan bersama dinas terkait sebelum menyalurkan bantuan," she stated, outlining the preemptive measures taken to assess the victims' needs before distributing aid.
Meanwhile, the government of Pasuruan was conducting its assessment of the damage inflicted by severe weather, addressing four homes severely affected. Sugeng Hariyadi, the head of the Pasuruan Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated the necessity of evaluation prior to execution of repairs, which will be considered for inclusion in the regional budget proposals. "Setelah kejadian kita asesment untuk melihat sekaligus menghitung tingkat kerusakannya. Nanti bisa ditentukan kerusakannya tergolong ringan, sedang atau berat," he noted, indicating the organized approach to disaster recovery and the importance placed on gauging the damage.
Households affected include Dasriani's home in Dusun Cemoro, which suffered severe foundation damage due to septic tank issues, and Ponisri's property, where lightning strikes caused significant damage to both the ceiling and walls. Other affected homes, like those belonging to Suliha and families from Dusun Kapuhrejo, revealed the diverse damages incurred, reflecting the wide-ranging impact of recent weather systems.
Sugeng also communicated the proactive measures undertaken by the BPBD, which involved distributing food logistics, ready-to-eat meals, nutritious extras, and other essentials such as blankets and tarps. "Semua bantuan sudah kami salurkan kepada warga terdampak, dan mudah-mudahan bermanfaat," he stated, reiteratively emphasizing the goal of relief efforts.
While the disaster response of local organizations and the government has been commendable, Sugeng urged the public to remain vigilant: "Karena bencana itu terjadi kapan saja dan dimana saja. Kita tingkatkan kewaspadaan dan selalu berdoa agar dihindarkan dari segala kejadian yang membahayakan nyawa," encouraging the community to prepare for potential future threats and natural calamities.
The coordinated relief efforts are shining examples of community resilience, underlining the importance of collaboration between local organizations like Pramuka and governmental bodies. Through both immediate support and long-term recovery plans, there is hope for restoring normalcy and rebuilding lives affected by these disasters.
Such initiatives reflect the shared humanity within local communities—demonstrations of kindness and support amid disaster. By continuing to engage and mobilize resources effectively, Indonesia can fortify its resilience against future natural threats.
