Liverpool Dominates Manchester City To Claim 2-0 Victory

Salah shines with one goal and one assist as Reds push toward league title.

Liverpool defeated Manchester City 2-0 on February 24, 2024, at Etihad Stadium, advancing closer to the Premier League title.

The match showcased Liverpool's tactical prowess as they claimed their latest victory over the defending champions. With this win, Liverpool extends their lead over second-placed Arsenal by 11 points, solidifying their position at the top of the league.

Starting off, Liverpool set up with a 4-2-2-2 formation, featuring key players like Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones. Meanwhile, Manchester City opted for a 4-2-3-1 setup, with stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.

Although City enjoyed more ball possession early on, it was Liverpool who struck first. On the 14th minute, during a corner kick, Alexis Mac Allister delivered a low cross to Szoboszlai, whose clever turn allowed Salah to hammer home the first goal with his shot deflecting off Nathan Ake.

City attempted to respond rapidly. Ake's pass found Omar Marmoush, who had his effort ruled offside just before half-time. Liverpool, not to be outdone, doubled their lead shortly after. Salah provided the assist for Szoboszlai’s strike on the 37th minute, reinforcing Liverpool's dominance.

The second half continued with City pushing to regain momentum. Despite operating at higher intensity, Liverpool maintained effective counterattacks. A notable moment saw Szoboszlai set up Jones for what appeared to be another goal, but this was also overturned by VAR for offside.

Manchester City made substitutions to change the flow of the game, bringing on İlkay Gündoğan and Ruben Dias among others. Yet, Liverpool remained resilient, effectively managing the game and utilizing their defensive strategy to stave off City’s advances.

The game concluded with no additional goals, leaving Liverpool triumphant and extending their unbeaten streak to 23 matches this season across all competitions. This match not only signifies Liverpool's solid footing on the path to the title but also serves as another impressive chapter in their rivalry with Manchester City.
