Lewis Hamilton Secures First Pole Position With Ferrari

In an electrifying sprint qualifying, Hamilton shatters records and sets the stage for an exciting race.

In an exhilarating sprint qualifying session for the Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton has made history by securing his first pole position for Ferrari in his second race with the team. This remarkable achievement sets him up favorably for the upcoming race in Shanghai. The anticipation is palpable as fans and competitors alike await the sprint race scheduled for March 22, 2025.

Hamilton's journey to the top started with a record-breaking lap, showcasing both his driving prowess and the enhancements made to his car during the break. Speaking after the session, Hamilton expressed a mix of disbelief and excitement. “I think the last race was a disaster for us,” he remarked, reflecting on previous performances. “We knew the car had more power, but we weren't able to unleash it.” He also emphasized a refreshing change in the car's dynamics, stating that “the car came alive from the first lap” on a circuit he adores.

The atmosphere at the Shanghai International Circuit was electric, with fantastic weather contributing to the day’s success. Hamilton, who joined Ferrari to pursue new challenges, stated, “We made some great changes. The team did a fantastic job during the break to get the car ready, and I’m a bit in shock. I can’t believe we actually got a pole in a sprint.” While acknowledging that pole position in the sprint isn’t the same as victory in the main race, he recognized this accomplishment as a crucial step forward.

Hamilton wasn't the only driver turning heads. Maximilian Verstappen, notably close behind, finished the session just +0.018 seconds off Hamilton's time, solidifying a competitive edge for the race. Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc also performed admirably, finishing behind Oscar Piastri, who had the best qualifying among McLaren cars.

“My first sector was really, really strong. I think that’s where I improved the most,” Hamilton noted regarding his performance. He elaborated on his strategy moving forward, stating he still sees room for improvement. “I’m not really finished yet. I couldn’t race in Bahrain. Tomorrow, I’ll drive a longer run or race for the first time and on Sunday, I’ll race in dry conditions with this car for the first time. I’ve got a lot to learn,” he added, balancing his optimism about the car’s performance with the realities of competing at this level.

As for the rest of the grid, the young British driver Lando Norris from McLaren initially appeared to dominate with a significant lead during practice but had to settle for sixth in qualifying after aborting his final lap in SQ3. His teammate Oscar Piastri secured a top-three finish, showcasing the strength of the McLaren team. The qualifying also saw George Russell placing just ahead of Norris, echoing his earlier podium finish at the Australian Grand Prix in the season.

Further back on the grid, Kimi Antonelli finished strong in his Mercedes, while Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon, and Lance Stroll all made it into the top ten, delivering strong performances. Rookie Liam Lawson, however, had a tough day, finishing last and set to start from the back of the grid at P20.

As the sun sets over Shanghai, the excitement builds for the sprint race, which is set to begin at 03:00 AM UK time. This unique event, with its own strategy and drama, promises to be a thrilling precursor to the main race on Sunday. With drivers pushing their limits, the stakes couldn't be higher.

Hamilton remains hopeful as he prepares for the sprint race, saying, “I hope we can stay competitive. I believe McLaren is very, very quick, just like Max, but we’re in a good position. We’re going to stay positive, keep our heads up, and keep pushing forward.” As fans gear up for what promises to be an exciting race day, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Hamilton and his pursuit of further success with Ferrari.
