Laura Thorn Shines In Eurovision Rehearsal For Luxembourg

The Luxembourgish singer's performance pays homage to Eurovision history while exploring themes of empowerment.

Laura Thorn, a rising star from Luxembourg, took the stage on May 8, 2025, for her second rehearsal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, performing her captivating entry "La poupée monte le son." This song not only pays homage to France Gall's iconic 1965 Eurovision-winning track "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" but also explores themes of autonomy and empowerment.

Thorn, a multi-instrumentalist and singer, began her musical journey at the tender age of eight, immersing herself in music theory, piano, cello, and dance. After years of hard work and dedication, she earned a master’s degree in music theory, music pedagogy, and modern singing at the Higher Institute of Music and Pedagogy (IMEP) in Namur, Belgium. In September 2024, she began teaching at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory of Music in Luxembourg, sharing her passion for music with the next generation.

Her journey to Eurovision began in 2024 when Parisian producers Julien Salvia and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal invited her to perform their new composition, which would later be titled "La poupée monte le son." Thorn’s performance stood out in the Luxembourg Song Contest 2025, where she emerged as one of seven finalists. She garnered the highest marks from the international juries and placed second in the televote, ultimately winning the opportunity to represent Luxembourg at Eurovision 2025.

The rehearsal showcased a vibrant 1960s-style dollhouse set in shades of pink and red, creating a whimsical backdrop for her performance. Thorn was accompanied by five male dancers clad in red velvet suits, who added flair to the routine. Their choreography transformed her initially stiff, doll-like movements into more fluid and expressive gestures, enhancing the overall performance.

During the second verse, Thorn led her dancers out of the dollhouse and onto the walkway, transitioning seamlessly to the frame stage for the final segment. Her costume also evolved throughout the rehearsal—from a playful pink doll dress to a more sophisticated pale pink version featuring corset lacing and silver thigh boots. At one point, she changed into a sparkling silver dress, adding an element of surprise and glamour to her act.

Thorn is set to take the stage again on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, for her first dress rehearsal before the Second Semi-Final. Fans can look forward to more updates and insights from EurovisionFun as the event unfolds.

Meanwhile, the Eurovision stage buzzed with activity as the 15 countries from Semi-final 1 and the first nine countries from Semi-final 2 conducted their second rehearsals on May 7 and 8, 2025. Each country was allotted a 25-minute slot to perfect their performances, allowing for multiple run-throughs to refine their acts.

On May 9, 2025, the second rehearsals continued for the countries competing in Semi-Final Two. Among those rehearsing were Georgia with Mariam Shangelia's "Freedom," Denmark's Sissal with "Hallucination," Czechia's Adonxs performing "Kiss Kiss Goodbye," and of course, Luxembourg's Laura Thorn. Other acts included Israel's Yuval Raphael with "New Day Will Rise," Serbia's Princ performing "Mila," and Finland's Erika Vikman with "Ich komme."
