Karachi Weather Report: Cloudy Skies And Rain Expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts cool conditions and occasional drizzle across the city, with temperatures dropping.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted cloudy weather for today, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius. Karachi is experiencing pleasant weather as grey clouds settle over the city. The temperature of the city was recorded at 22 degrees Celsius this morning, with bookings ranging between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were reported at 82%.

According to the PMD, "A strong westerly wave is affecting most upper and central parts of the country and may persist in upper parts during next 02 days." This weather system is expected to bring intermittent rain with snowfall to areas such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper and central Punjab.

Meanwhile, Karachi's weather is maintaining its coolness, with the city recording its minimum temperature at 22°C for the second consecutive day. This cloud cover is expected to continue, with the temperature projected to drop by 2°C, reaching minimum temperatures of about 19°C, with maximums hitting 28°C. The rainy weather is forecasted to affect several areas during the day, but significant rainfall is not anticipated within the city.

More rains have been projected for Punjab with regions like Lahore expecting showers today and tomorrow. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised residents and tourists to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel, emphasizing emergency contact procedures.

Light drizzle or showers may occur within Karachi's suburbs, but wider impacts of the weather system continue to bring rain with thunder and lightning to cities such as Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Sukkur. With heavy rains and thunderstorms likely across upper regions, cities such as Peshawar, Lahore, and other regions are bracing for more varied weather impacts.

The weather this morning has shown temperatures across several major Pakistani cities with Islamabad at 14°C, Peshawar at 14°C, and Quetta registering 9°C. Notably, higher altitudes such as Gilgit saw much lower temperatures, registering only 6°C.

This week has showcased fluctuations as weather patterns continue to shift due to this westerly wave. The PMD has also highlighted the air quality concerns, reporting Karachi ranked 25th most polluted city globally, with particulate matter levels at 123 micrograms per cubic meter, indicating persistent environmental challenges amid wrapping weather shifts.

By midday, Karachi's minimum temperature settled around 21.2 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures fluctuated between 29°C and 31°C on the forecast. Coupled with high humidity, these factors suggest continued cooler conditions across the densely populated city.

The weather department’s updates come alongside reports of snowfall disruptions affecting daily life and transport services, particularly across several Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan sectors where thick layers of snow have led to communication outages.

Despite the sporadic raindrops and cloud coverage, Karachiites are likely to enjoy cooler breezes attributed to the western winds easing the city’s usual humidity. For now, as the PMD continues to monitor weather developments, residents are encouraged to stay updated on changing forecasts.
