Kalmykia Advances Education And Agriculture Amid Infrastructure Improvements

Recent initiatives enhance educational training and agricultural productivity in Kalmykia, boosting local infrastructure and job creation.

On April 23, 2025, a significant training seminar for technical specialists involved in the state final examination (OGE) took place at the Situation and Information Center of the Center for Education Quality Assessment in the Republic of Kalmykia. This event, which saw participation from 53 registered individuals, aimed to refine the technological and organizational procedures vital for conducting the OGE.

The seminar was organized by the Regional Information Processing Center (RCIOI) and focused on the Russian language subject of the OGE. It was structured to include practical training across ten classrooms, simulating a real examination environment with 50 conditional participants. The seminar was divided into three key stages: preparation, conduct, and completion.

During the preparation phase, RCIOI staff demonstrated the necessary steps for conducting timely technical preparations before the exam day. This included ensuring all equipment and processes were ready to facilitate a smooth examination experience. The examination stage allowed technical specialists to practice operating the printing and scanning stations for examination materials, and they also engaged in troubleshooting non-standard situations that might arise during the exam.

At the completion stage, the technical specialists transferred the examination materials from the testing point back to the RCIOI. Staff at the RCIOI provided a visual demonstration of how to accept encrypted examination materials for further processing, highlighting common errors that could occur during the transfer process. At the end of the seminar, the RCIOI staff addressed all questions raised by the participants, ensuring clarity and understanding of the procedures discussed.

In a separate development, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, where the acting Minister of Agriculture of Kalmykia, Timur Gavaev, met with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Maxim Borov. The discussion focused on advancing the reclamation complex in the republic, which has recently achieved notable recognition by ranking among the top ten regions in Russia for the increase in irrigated areas.

In 2024, Kalmyk agricultural producers effectively utilized over 59% of reclaimed land, yielding impressive results: 100,000 tons of grain, 16.7 thousand tons of rice, 8.3 thousand tons of potatoes and vegetable products, and 129 thousand tons of roughage. Gavaev emphasized the importance of irrigation for food security in Kalmykia, stating, "Irrigation is the foundation of food security in Kalmykia. In the arid climate of our republic, the development of irrigation systems is of strategic importance. Thanks to federal support, we will not only maintain but significantly increase agricultural production, creating new jobs and ensuring a stable future for our farmers."

The meeting concluded with an agreement to expand federal support for Kalmykia's reclamation complex, which will facilitate the increase of irrigated land and enhance the efficiency of agricultural production in the region.

Furthermore, on April 26-27, 2025, Nikolai Gorban, the General Director of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), along with consortium specialists, conducted an inspection of several oil pumping stations, including A-NPS-5A in the Astrakhan region, NPS 'Komsomolskaya', NPS-2, NPS-3 in Kalmykia, and NPS-4 in Stavropol Territory. This inspection was part of unscheduled readiness checks for personnel and subcontractors to manage emergencies.

During the inspections, CPC leaders reviewed the main and auxiliary equipment at the stations and assessed the preparations for a large-scale project aimed at transitioning facilities to external power supply. At A-NPS-5A, discussions revolved around the operational aspects of four frequency-controlled drives for electric motors recently installed as part of a bottleneck elimination program.

At NPS 'Komsomolskaya', the team discussed the preparations for implementing an external power supply project, which includes constructing new buildings and additional cable lines. The modernization of fire extinguishing pumping stations was also on the agenda, with plans to enhance them with more powerful pumps and a foam generating unit.

In 2024, NPS 'Komsomolskaya' was equipped with additional facilities as part of a pilot project in the Central region, enhancing its operational capabilities. This station plays a crucial role in transporting oil along the main route from Tengiz to Novorossiysk and receiving oil from Russian offshore fields in the Caspian Sea.

In addition to these developments, Rosseti Yug has made strides in improving the reliability of power supply to the Lagan region of Kalmykia. Since the beginning of 2025, specialists from the Rosseti Yug - Kalmenergo branch have been actively repairing five transformer substations in the city of Lagan and surrounding villages. These repairs included upgrading 0.6 kilometers of overhead power lines and replacing ties on 13 overhead line supports.

The efforts have successfully increased the reliability of power supply for over 17,000 residents and approximately 60 socially significant facilities in the Lagan region. This initiative aims to reduce the risks of technological disruptions during peak loads, ensuring that essential services remain uninterrupted.

As these various initiatives unfold, they reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and agricultural capabilities of the Republic of Kalmykia, paving the way for future growth and stability in the region.
