Joost Broerse Returns As General Manager Of PEC Zwolle

Former player and commercial director takes on new leadership role starting July 1

In a significant move for PEC Zwolle, the club has appointed Joost Broerse as their new general manager. Broerse, a former player for the team, is set to take on this role starting July 1, 2025, marking his return to the club after several years away.

Broerse, who has spent the last few years as the commercial director at FC Utrecht, previously held a similar position at PEC Zwolle from 2015 to 2018. As a player, he donned the Zwolle jersey 94 times between 2012 and 2015, contributing to the team’s success in winning the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2014.

His appointment comes on the heels of Xander Czaikowski's departure from the general manager position last winter, leaving a void that Broerse is eager to fill. "I stood at a point in my career where I was ready to take a new path. It is very nice that PEC Zwolle approached me at this moment to become the general manager, something I have aspired to for a long time," Broerse expressed in a statement.

Broerse's familiarity with the club is expected to benefit his leadership approach. He aims to foster connections within the organization, stating, "I want to help the club move forward as a connector, where 'doing it together' will be the common thread." This vision aligns with the club’s goals as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Technical director Gerry Hamstra shared his enthusiasm for Broerse’s return, noting, "Joost is a pleasant person who knows the football world and has also gained experience on a commercial and administrative level. I am glad he is returning to Zwolle this summer and look forward to our collaboration."

Frans van der Kolk, chairman of the PEC Zwolle Foundation Board, echoed these sentiments, praising Broerse as a strong communicator and a bridge-builder within the club. "He is known as a person who is well-liked at all levels within and around the club. We welcome Joost with open arms and wish him much success at PEC Zwolle," Van der Kolk stated.

In addition to the managerial changes, PEC Zwolle recently announced that Henry van der Vegt will be the head coach starting next season. Van der Vegt, currently an assistant coach at Zwolle, will succeed Johnny Jansen and has signed a contract that runs until mid-2027.

PEC Zwolle has been working to secure its place in the Eredivisie, and a recent 1-3 victory against NAC Breda has almost ensured their safety in the top league. This victory is a crucial boost for the team as they look to build momentum under new leadership.

As the club transitions into this new chapter with Broerse at the helm, fans and players alike are hopeful for a bright future. With his experience and deep understanding of the club, Broerse's return is seen as a strategic move to strengthen PEC Zwolle's position in Dutch football.

In conclusion, Joost Broerse’s return to PEC Zwolle as general manager is a promising development for the club. His history with the team and commitment to fostering a collaborative environment are set to play a pivotal role in the club's future endeavors. With the new coaching staff and a solid plan in place, PEC Zwolle looks forward to what lies ahead in the upcoming season.
