Jeep has officially unveiled the new Compass 2025, marking a significant evolution in the third generation of this popular SUV. This latest model not only features a radical redesign but also incorporates advanced technology and electrified powertrains, reflecting the brand's commitment to sustainability and modern driving needs.
The new Compass utilizes the STLA Medium platform, which it shares with other Stellantis models, allowing for enhanced space and comfort. With a length of 4.55 meters, it is 15 cm longer than its predecessor, and its width has increased to 1.93 meters. Notably, the wheelbase has grown to nearly 2.80 meters, providing 55 mm of additional legroom in the rear seats, ensuring a more comfortable ride for passengers.
One of the standout features of the new Compass is its increased luggage capacity, which has grown by 45 liters to a total of 550 liters. This is complemented by a rear seat that can be split 40/20/40, allowing for versatile storage options.
In terms of off-road capabilities, the new Compass does not disappoint. It boasts a ground clearance of up to 200 mm and impressive approach, breakover, and departure angles of 20°, 15°, and 26° respectively, along with a wading depth of up to 470 mm. The upcoming 4xe version promises even better off-road performance with enhanced angles and capabilities.
Inside, the Compass has been upgraded to include two large displays: a 10-inch screen for instrumentation and a 16-inch central display for infotainment. This high-tech setup is part of a comprehensive package that includes Level 2 assisted driving features, a head-up display, LED matrix headlights, and heated, electrically adjustable seats. The First Edition model, available at launch, features 20-inch wheels, 360° sensors, a sunroof, and premium upholstery materials.
As for the engine options, the new Compass has moved away from diesel engines, opting instead for a range of electrified powertrains. At launch, buyers can choose from a 1.2 turbo mild hybrid engine producing 136 HP, paired with a 29 HP electric motor, delivering a total system power of 145 HP. This version is designed for efficiency, achieving a fuel consumption of 5.9 l/100 km in the WLTP cycle and a CO2 emission level of 133 g/km.
The fully electric variant of the Compass features a 213 HP motor and a 74 kWh battery, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. Jeep claims this electric version can travel approximately 500 km on a full charge, making it a practical choice for environmentally conscious drivers. Charging options include rapid charging capabilities at up to 160 kW, allowing the battery to reach 80% in about 30 minutes.
In later releases, Jeep plans to expand the Compass lineup to include a plug-in hybrid variant with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 125 HP electric motor, producing a combined output of 195 HP. Additionally, an all-wheel-drive electric version with 231 HP and a range of up to 650 km will be introduced, as well as a 4xe version with a total power output of 375 HP.
The new Compass is set to start at a price of 41,900 euros for the mild hybrid First Edition model, with the electric version beginning at 49,900 euros. The first deliveries are anticipated to occur in the last quarter of 2025, with more affordable versions expected to be introduced later, potentially bringing the starting price below 40,000 euros.
Antonio Spera, National Secretary of UGL Metalworkers, remarked on the launch, stating, "We have had the opportunity to see the new Jeep Compass in person, a larger, more modern, and technological vehicle than the one it replaces. It seems like a true revolution that could turn the page for this model." He emphasized that after eighteen years and over 2.5 million units sold, a new chapter is set to begin in the history of the Jeep Compass.
Jeep has long been associated with rugged off-road vehicles, but the Compass represents a shift towards accommodating urban drivers without sacrificing the brand's adventurous spirit. The first-generation Compass was introduced in 2006 and quickly became a competitor in the market segment that includes models like the Land Rover Freelander. Now, nearly two decades later, the third generation aims to appeal to a discerning clientele looking for both style and functionality.
Manufactured in Melfi, Italy, the new Compass is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive SUV market. With its combination of advanced technology, spacious design, and environmentally friendly powertrains, the 2025 Compass is set to attract a wide range of customers looking for a modern SUV that meets the demands of both city and adventure driving.
As Jeep continues to evolve, the new Compass stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and sustainability, ensuring it remains a favorite among SUV enthusiasts worldwide.
