On April 28, 2025, it was officially announced that the popular NAVER web novel "Marry My Husband" is set to be adapted into a Japanese drama, premiering on Prime Video starting June 27, 2025. The series will star Fuka Koshiba and Takeru Satoh in lead roles, with Risa Shiraishi and Yu Yokoyama from SUPER EIGHT supporting them. This adaptation is part of a joint Japan-Korea project, bringing together talents from both nations.
The original story follows Miri, a woman who has always placed others before herself, ultimately leading to her demise due to the betrayal of her close friend and husband. However, she finds herself transported back ten years into the past. Determined to exact revenge on those who wronged her, Miri decides to abandon her role as a 'good person' and seeks to ruin her former friend and husband. Yet, an unexpected encounter with her boss, Yutaka Suzuki, who was not part of her first life, begins to change her heart.
Fuka Koshiba, known for her versatility in acting, will portray Miri. In her remarks, she expressed excitement about the unique experience of working with a Korean director and team, stating, "I felt a fresh atmosphere and experience at the scene, which was very different from what I’ve had before. The script combines the interesting aspects of the original with a Japanese sensibility. Although the story is about revenge, Miri’s kindness and strength are clearly conveyed. I aimed to portray her as a woman who is so kind that she hesitates to take revenge, making others want to help her. I hope everyone looks forward to the release!"
Takeru Satoh will play the role of Yutaka Suzuki, the cool boss who becomes actively involved in Miri’s second life. Satoh shared his enthusiasm about collaborating with director An Gil-ho, saying, "I often watch An’s works, and I’m very happy to be working with him this time. On set, I hardly felt any communication barriers due to language differences; we understood each other well in many non-verbal ways. The character I portray, Yutaka, lives to protect Miri’s life. I focused on that aspect while performing. The latter part of the story includes elements unique to the Japanese version, and I believe even those who have seen the original will find it thrilling."
Risa Shiraishi plays Reina Ewasaki, Miri’s childhood friend and only confidante. Shiraishi expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "Reina is a challenging role with many heavy scenes, but I felt a strong sense of enjoyment in playing her. I feel like I discovered a part of myself that I didn’t know before through my encounter with Reina. I’m excited to see how the audience reacts to the visuals!"
Yu Yokoyama, who will portray Yuto Hirano, Miri’s husband from her first life, mentioned the challenges of his role, saying, "The character of Yuto Hirano is a type I have never played before, and I found it difficult to understand him. When I discussed this role with others, I was met with surprise and excitement. The content has many original aspects unique to the Japanese adaptation, so I hope everyone will look forward to the release!"
The script for "Marry My Husband" is penned by Rimi Oshima, who is recognized for her work on acclaimed dramas such as "One Liter of Tears" and "Sayonara Maestro." Oshima’s writing blends detailed psychological portrayals with warm humor, promising a captivating narrative. The direction is helmed by An Gil-ho, known for his expertise in suspense and human drama, including works like "The Glory."
The drama consists of ten episodes, with two episodes released every Friday over five weeks. This adaptation is highly anticipated, especially following the success of the Korean drama version, which was globally distributed on Prime Video last year and garnered significant acclaim, ranking as the highest-viewed Asian content among non-English titles.
As the release date approaches, excitement is building not only among fans of the original web novel but also among those eager to see how this beloved story will be presented in a new cultural context. The collaboration between CJ ENM, the production company behind the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," and Studio Dragon, known for hits like "Crash Landing on You," adds to the anticipation surrounding this project.
With a narrative that explores themes of betrayal, revenge, and personal growth, "Marry My Husband" promises to deliver an engaging viewing experience that resonates with audiences worldwide. The unique blend of Japanese storytelling and Korean production expertise is expected to bring a fresh perspective to this compelling tale of a woman reclaiming her life.
Fans will be able to enjoy the series starting June 27, 2025, making it a must-watch for anyone interested in the evolving landscape of international drama.
