Jammu And Kashmir Braces For Rain And Snow Forecast

Meteorological Centre predicts fresh precipitation across the region from February 19-28, advising caution for travelers.

The Jammu and Kashmir region is bracing for significant weather changes, as the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued forecasts predicting light to moderate rain and snowfall across various parts. Starting from February 19, the region is expected to experience rain and snow, particularly impacting the higher reaches and plains.

According to the latest information released, one of the officials from the Meteorological department indicated, “From February 19-20, there will be general cloudy skies toward the evening with light to moderate rain and snow at many places during the night until the evening of February 20.” This burst of precipitation is expected to primarily affect the Jammu region and Chenab Valley.

The official added, “The main activity is expected over Jammu region, Chenab valley and higher reaches of south Kashmir.” The forecast details extensive snowfall for higher elevations, predicting 7 to 12 inches of snow accumulation. Meanwhile, the plains of Jammu may see light to moderate rainfall combined with gusty winds.

For higher reaches of north and central Kashmir, moderate snowfall in the range of 4 to 8 inches is expected. The weather report also outlines conditions for February 21 and 23 to be partly cloudy, leading to light rain or snow on February 24-25 at scattered locations.

Following this up with predictions for later days, the official noted, “On February 26-28, the weather conditions will likely remain cloudy with light to moderate rain and snow at many places.” This string of adverse weather could pose challenges for locals and tourists alike.

Tourists, travelers, and transporters have been advised to heed warnings and updates from local authorities to stay safe during these changing weather patterns. The Meteorological Centre stressed the importance of monitoring advisories from both the administration and traffic departments closely.
