Jake Paul Set To Fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr In June

Paul aims to build on Tyson win while Chavez Jr returns from a victory against Hall

In a highly anticipated matchup, Jake Paul is set to step into the ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28, 2025, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. This fight marks another chapter in Paul's burgeoning boxing career, as he looks to build on his recent victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson.

Paul, who boasts a professional record of 11 wins and 1 loss, with 7 of those victories coming by knockout, is coming off a unanimous decision win against Tyson in November 2024. That fight took place in front of a massive crowd of 72,000 at Dallas's AT&T Stadium and garnered significant viewership, with 65 million accounts tuning in on Netflix. However, the bout was met with mixed reviews, as critics questioned the quality of boxing displayed between the 28-year-old Paul and the 58-year-old Tyson.

Now, Paul is looking to solidify his standing in the sport by facing Chavez Jr., the son of the legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez and a former WBC middleweight champion. Chavez Jr., 39, has a professional record of 54 wins (34 by knockout), 6 losses, and 1 draw. He last fought in July 2024, where he secured a unanimous decision victory over former UFC fighter Uriah Hall.

In a statement released on April 18, 2025, Paul expressed his excitement for the upcoming fight, saying, "Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after a single amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion. I just defeated the baddest man on the planet, and now I’m going against a former champion who Canelo couldn’t finish. Chavez Jr. is Mexican, but I, ‘El Gallo De Dorado’, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday 28 June, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will knock out Julio and make Chavez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has."

Chavez Jr. is eager for the matchup as well, stating, "First of all, I will show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life – mentally and physically. I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger. Second, I want to thank MVP [Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company] for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their ‘Problem Child’, they’re going to have a big problem this June, one they won’t know how to resolve. Hopefully when I beat him, people won’t underestimate this win."

The fight is scheduled for 10 three-minute rounds at the cruiserweight limit of 200 pounds and will stream live on DAZN pay-per-view. This event will be a significant occasion for both fighters, as it pits Paul, a social media influencer turned boxer, against a traditional fighter with a storied legacy.

Before this matchup was finalized, Paul had been in advanced discussions to face Canelo Alvarez, a fight that would have marked a major challenge for him. However, Alvarez shifted his focus and signed a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season, leaving Paul to seek out Chavez Jr. as his next opponent.

Chavez Jr. has faced his share of challenges throughout his career, including a notable defeat to UFC legend Anderson Silva in 2021, where he was outlanded 99-53 in an eight-round bout. Despite these setbacks, Chavez Jr. remains a formidable opponent and will look to reclaim his status in the boxing world with a win over Paul.

As both fighters prepare for the clash, the bout is generating buzz not only for the boxing skills that will be on display but also for the contrasting backgrounds of the two competitors. Paul has made headlines for his brash persona and ability to draw large audiences, while Chavez Jr. represents the traditional boxing lineage that many fans cherish.

The boxing world is watching closely as the fight date approaches. Will Paul continue his ascent in the sport, or will Chavez Jr. remind everyone of his championship pedigree? One thing is for sure: this fight is set to be a spectacle filled with intrigue, drama, and the potential for significant implications in the boxing landscape.

As the countdown to June 28 begins, fans are eager to see how this matchup unfolds. With both fighters vowing to deliver their best performances, the anticipation is building for what promises to be an unforgettable night of boxing.
