Indonesian Regions Launch Security Operations For Idul Fitri

Multiple local governments prepare extensive measures to ensure safe and smooth travels during the holiday exodus.

As Indonesia gears up for the widely celebrated Idul Fitri, various regions across the country are taking significant measures to ensure the safety and comfort of travelers during the holiday period. On March 20, 2025, a series of security operations—dubbed Operasi Ketupat Semeru 2025, Operasi Ketupat Mahakam 2025, and Operasi Ketupat Lancang Kuning 2025—were officially launched, involving local governments, military, and police forces.

In Kediri, the operations were led by Wakil Wali Kota Qowimuddin, who emphasized the commitment to ensuring personnel readiness and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. "Apel ini menjadi wujud komitmen nyata dari sinergisitas TNI-Polri dan seluruh stakeholder dalam memberikan pelayanan terbaik bagi masyarakat yang melaksanakan mudik dan merayakan Idulfitri. Kesiapan ini harus diiringi dengan tanggung jawab besar untuk menjaga keamanan dan ketertiban," he stated during the troop roll call at Kediri City Hall.

Similarly, in Bontang, Wali Kota dr Neni Moernaeni led the city’s preparations for the influx of travelers. During a troop formation held at the Polres Bontang headquarters, she revealed that public satisfaction regarding the handling of the exodus last year was notably high, reaching 89.5 percent. This figure represents a significant increase of 15.7 percent compared to the previous year, reinforcing efforts to maintain and enhance service quality during the 2025 operation.

"Keberhasilan tahun sebelumnya harus kita pertahankan dan tingkatkan. Kita ingin memastikan masyarakat merasa aman, nyaman, dan lancar selama perjalanan mudik dan balik tahun ini," Wali Kota Neni added, highlighting the collaborative spirit among the military, police, and local stakeholders engaged in these efforts.

In Riau, Gubernur Abdul Wahid underscored the necessity of a coordinated approach to security during this holiday season. The operation in Riau, marked by a ceremonial gathering, aims to ensure a peaceful environment for those traveling home for Idul Fitri. "Operasi ini merupakan bentuk sinergi seluruh elemen dalam menjaga keamanan masyarakat saat mudik," he stated, reaffirming that preparedness is key to successful execution.

The security measures will extend over a total of fourteen days, from March 20 through early April, targeting the anticipated peak travel periods between March 28-30 and again for the return flow from April 5-7. With over 164,298 personnel allocated nationwide across 2,835 posts, the operations are designed to cover essential locations including prayer sites, shopping areas, tourist attractions, ports, bus terminals, and airports.

In Riau alone, approximately 3,452 personnel will be stationed at 1,359 security points, which will include collective efforts in managing high-traffic areas to mitigate potential hazards and ensure crowd control. Furthermore, measures like odd-even traffic rules, contra-flow systems, and one-way traffic will be systematically enforced based on real-time monitoring to facilitate smoother travel for all.

Additionally, local governments are keen on addressing any concerns about essential goods availability and stable pricing during this critical period. Authorities are ensuring that supply chains remain robust and accessible while monitoring grocery and fuel prices. Qowimuddin reminded stakeholders to keep an eye on price fluctuations and assured rigorous action against any hoarding practices.

Given the collaborative efforts displayed, officials remain optimistic that they can uphold safety and facilitate a seamless experience for citizens during their return to their hometowns for celebrations. Grasping the importance of community cooperation, they encourage all citizens to partake in these efforts to maintain safety.

As these preparations unfold, citizens await what promises to be a smoothly managed Idul Fitri celebration—a time for family reunions, communal prayers, and joyful festivities—amidst the peace fostered by robust security operations throughout Indonesia.

With the government’s stimuli aimed at enhancing the travel experience through discounts on transportation and extended holiday times for schools, the anticipation among families is palpable. As the holiday approaches, the successful execution of Operasi Ketupat LC, Mahakam, and Semeru will offer Indonesia a well-deserved festive environment, ensuring that not only is the journey home safe, but also enjoyable for everyone involved.
