Registration for government schools and selection for civil servant positions have become important topics for many students across Indonesia as the year 2024 approaches. Aspirants from senior high schools (SMA), vocational schools (SMK), and equivalent institutions are eagerly awaiting the admissions processes for various governmental educational institutions.
These schools offer opportunities for students to pursue higher education levels from D3 to D4 under varying ministries, providing substantial employment prospects as civil servants (CPNS). Notably, students selected for these schools can pursue their education for free, which adds to the allure.
Interest is brewing among students as they prepare for the rigorous selection process, aware of the physical and academic requirements needed to qualify. For those with visual impairments, there are specific schools willing to accept applicants. Five notable institutions include:
1. Politeknik Siber dan Sandi Negara (Poltek SSN)
Poltek SSN, which received 3,183 applicants last year, does not impose specific requirements concerning vision impairments as long as applicants do not suffer from color blindness. Basic requirements include being physically healthy and adhering to minimum height standards of 160 cm for men and 150 cm for women.
2. Politeknik Statistika STIS
This polytechnic received 19,793 registrants last year and allows applicants to apply even if they have minor vision issues below six diopters. Successful candidates must be at least 16 years old and should have achieved excellent scores (80 or higher) on key subjects.
3. Sekolah Tinggi Intelijen Negara (STIN)
With 8,841 applicants last year, STIN permits applicants to have minor vision issues (up to -1 or +1 diopter) and aims for high standards with graduates required to serve for 16 years upon completion.
4. Sekolah Tinggi Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (STMKG)
STMKG has its unique stance, allowing candidates with up to -4 diopters and requiring successful applicants to invest in laser treatment post-admission.
5. Politeknik Keuangan Negara (PKN) STAN
This institution had the highest turnout, with 38,355 applicants, and does not specify vision impairments as part of their criteria.
All these schools present substantial openings for those with vision issues yet eager to work within government sectors.
On the other side, for those pursuing civil service positions, certain requirements come under scrutiny, particularly physical attributes like height. Nico Afinta, Secretary General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, emphasized the importance of these criteria, stating, "Pekerjaan yang berkaitan dengan keamanan, contohnya para penjaga tahanan, membutuhkan kondisi fisik tertentu agar dapat melaksanakan tugasnya." This statement highlights the necessity of physical fitness for specific roles within governmental agencies.
To guarantee fairness, these standards are uniformly applied across all candidates. Nico mentioned the efforts to mitigate any disparities by even relaxing height requirements from the previous year—reducing 2 cm for both male candidates (from 165 cm to 163 cm) and female candidates (from 160 cm to 158 cm).
The health examinations integral to the selection process are conducted with reliable medical bodies to maintain transparency and uphold integrity within the assessment.
Finally, the selection processes are carried out not only to evaluate candidates’ qualifications and physical standards but also to secure positions filled with individuals best suited for specific job roles needed within governmental operations.
With anticipation and significant efforts evident among students, those interested should begin preparation, ensuring adherence to requirements to maximize their chances of success.
