The India Hydrogen Alliance (IH2A) has embarked on an ambitious expansion, recently welcoming six new members including prominent players such as Jindal Renewable Power, HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd, and Sumitomo Corporation India. With this inclusion, the alliance's coalition has grown to 26 members, which now comprises 16 industry leaders along with 10 partner organizations.
This concerted effort aims to advance the hydrogen value chain, playing a pivotal role in promoting large-scale green hydrogen projects across the nation. The alliance's focus is not only on developing technologies to generate hydrogen sustainably but also on creating innovative transport solutions to utilize this clean energy more effectively.
The IH2A’s growth follows recent submissions to the Indian government outlining plans for the National Green Hydrogen Hub, which includes a $5 billion economic viability and development plan alongside ambitions worth $50 billion for hydrogen equipment and exports. Such initiatives are aligned with the government’s broader objective to push for renewable energy adoption and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Deepu Surendran, Chief General Manager of Cochin Shipyard, underscored the significance of partnerships across various sectors to facilitate the exploration of emission-free transport solutions. He referenced the recent launch of India’s first indigenous hydrogen fuel cell catamaran ferry as part of these innovative transport efforts.
Adding to the weight of this initiative, Amrit Singh Deo, the lead of the IH2A Secretariat, highlighted how the diverse expertise brought upon by the new members will be integral to shaping the hydrogen ecosystem effectively. The new entrants will collaborate with the IH2A Steering Group and the organization’s Secretariat, which is overseen by FTI Consulting. This collaboration signifies IH2A's commitment to carrying out the aims of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Such enthusiastic participation from both private enterprises and government bodies showcases the collective recognition of hydrogen's potential as the energy source of the future. The increased interest and investment from various sectors indicate the momentum building behind hydrogen technology.
