Hyundai Offers Free NACS Adapters To EV Owners

Starting Q1 2025, eligible Hyundai drivers can access Tesla's Supercharger network through complimentary adapters.

Hyundai Motor America is taking bold steps toward enhancing electric vehicle (EV) charging convenience for its drivers, announcing today the provision of free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters to eligible EV owners starting early 2025. This initiative aims to facilitate access for Hyundai EV drivers to Tesla’s large network of Superchargers, representing a significant advancement for long-distance travel and regular charging requirements.

Beginning in the first quarter of 2025, eligible Hyundai EV owners can secure their complimentary NACS adapters through the MyHyundai owner portal. The newly introduced NACS adapters will grant access to over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across the United States, enabling Hyundai EVs with NACS ports and these adapters to connect with more than 38,000 DC fast chargers, encompassing both NACS and CCS charging systems.

Importantly, the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will set the precedent as the first non-Tesla vehicle to feature a factory-installed native NACS port. This move not only highlights Hyundai’s commitment to electrification but signals its drive toward improving infrastructure for EV users comprehensively. Adapters are also slated to be available for sale at Hyundai-authorized dealerships, ensuring broader accessibility for all customers.

Starting early 2025, Hyundai EV owners who either purchased or leased their vehicles by January 31, 2025, will qualify for this complimentary NACS adapter, with free shipping included. Eligible models span both the current and upcoming ranges, featuring the 2024 and earlier models like KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6, as well as the 2025 IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and KONA Electric.

The initiative reflects Hyundai’s broader commitment to incentivizing EV adoption and simplifying the transition to sustainable electric mobility. "To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners," stated Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai Motor North America. "These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners. Plus, the NACS port on new models like the upcoming IONIQ 9 along with improvements to our digital charging ecosystem, will provide enhanced experiences for future EV drivers. Our goal is to seamlessly facilitate this transition to electric vehicles.”

Looking forward, additional specifics, including the terms for claiming the complimentary NACS adapter and the pricing for optional purchases, are expected to be revealed through Hyundai’s official communications and on HyundaiNews.com throughout 2025. There is also anticipation surrounding Hyundai's luxury brand, Genesis, which will participate in this program as well; detailed information is expected to follow early next year.

Hyundai Motor America continues to embody innovation with its array of technology-rich vehicles, playing a substantial role within the U.S. economy. With extensive manufacturing facilities, independent dealerships, and advanced technological endeavors, the company is committed to creating jobs and fostering innovation aligned with its vision of Progress for Humanity. This upcoming free adapter initiative not only enhances the EV ownership experience but also contributes significantly to the mainstream adoption of electric vehicles across America.
