Hoy No Circula Restrictions For March 1, 2025

While air quality remains acceptable, drivers must adhere to vehicle restrictions this Saturday.

The Hoy No Circula Sabatino program, aimed at curbing air pollution, is active again this Saturday, March 1, 2025, across Mexico City and parts of the State of Mexico. With the health of thousands at stake due to air quality concerns, it is imperative for drivers to understand the vehicle restrictions to avoid fines.

This Saturday marks the first of the month where vehicle circulation is dictated by both the type of hologram displayed on vehicles and the last digit of their license plates. For March 1st, vehicles with hologram 1 and ending with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will not be allowed on the road. All vehicles displaying hologram 2 will also face restrictions, as well as any non-local vehicles, regardless of their hologram status.

Exempt from these measures are those with hologram double zeros, zero, and electric or hybrid vehicles. Emergency vehicles, public transport, and vehicles designated for people with disabilities also maintain their privilege to circulate freely throughout the day. The Hoy No Circula rules remain active from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM and are enforced across all 16 municipalities of Mexico City and 18 municipalities of Edomex, including areas such as Naucalpan, Ecatepec, and Tlalnepantla.

Non-compliance can result in hefty fines, which range from 20 to 30 UMA (Unidades de Medida y Actualización), translating to approximately $2,171.40 to $3,257.10 Mexican pesos as of the latest updates. Drivers are advised to stay informed by checking the official environmental department's resources to understand current regulations and monetary penalties.

Yet, no double Hoy No Circula restrictions will apply this Saturday. The Commission for Environmental Protection of the Megalopolis (CAMe) has not declared any environmental contingency as the air quality has remained acceptable. This announcement assures drivers can follow normal restrictions without worrying about intensified regulations.

The origin of the Hoy No Circula program dates back to 1989, having evolved from simple weekday restrictions to include this more recent Saturday initiative starting from 2008, significantly contributing to cleaner air attempts over the decades. Weekend restrictions function differently compared to the weekday requirements, adapting to the number of Saturdays within the month. Remember, with continued challenges surrounding air quality, the program continues to play a key role to improve the standard of living for residents.

Nevertheless, those who can drive without fear of sanctions this weekend should note their vehicle's specifications. Conditions apply to any vehicle, including those used for transportation, which must meet specific verification standards. Verifying your vehicle's eligibility is also recommended to circumvent penalties during the Hoy No Circula days.

Drivers are reminded to plan their weekends wisely to enjoy their activities without disruption. Effective awareness and adherence to these norms are pivotal not just for personal convenience but for community health as well. Checking for updates regularly will aid motorists to navigate their obligations efficiently.

With air quality being closely monitored, residents are encouraged to regularly check government websites or their media channels for any sudden contamination alerts or changes to the Hoy No Circula program. Together, fostering environment-friendly practices can lead to significant improvements not just locally, but for all surroundings.

On this Saturday, as vehicles rest and regulate the flow of contaminants, citizens of Mexico City and Edomex are reminded of their remarkable contribution to healthier urban air. Their compliance helps secure not only personal mobility but the overall wellbeing of the region’s populace.
