Hinatazaka46 Bids Farewell To Last First-generation Members

Sasaki Kumi, Sasaki Mirei, and Takase Mana announce their graduation, closing the chapter on the group's founding era.

Three members of the popular idol group Hinatazaka46 have announced their graduation, marking the end of the road for all first-generation members. On January 6, 2025, Sasaki Kumi, Sasaki Mirei, and Takase Mana took to their personal blogs to share this significant news, which is set to coincide with the release of the group's upcoming single, "Graduation Photos Only Know," on January 29, 2025.

Sasaki Kumi, the captain of the group at 28 years old, expressed her gratitude to fans during her announcement, saying, "I, Sasaki Kumi, will graduate from Hinatazaka46 at the activities of the 13th single. Thank you very much for these 8 and a half years!" Her decision to leave stemmed from her belief in the capabilities and growth of her fellow members. "I've been pondering about graduation for several years now. I feel the group is strong and ready to go on without me," she elaborated, showcasing her confidence.

Sasaki Mirei, at 25, also voiced her emotions, commenting on the surreal nature of delivering her graduation message. "I have an important announcement for all the fans who always support me. With the 13th single, I, Sasaki Mirei, will graduate from Hinatazaka46," she stated, underlining the unusual feeling she experienced as this milestone came to fruition. Her time as part of the group has been filled with emotional farewells to fellow members, where Mirei often cried for their departures. "It's surreal to think of this day coming; I'm grateful for everything I've experienced with my dear members and fans," she reflected poignantly.

Takase Mana, at just 26, reflects fondly on her tenure with Hinatazaka46, stating, "The fact of being able to continue for over 8 years since I took the audition at 17 is thanks to all the people who supported me. Thank you very much!" Together, these three members are the last traces of the initial formation of what was once known as Keyakizaka46, now award-winning Hinatazaka46, having joined back in 2016.

The graduation of Kumi, Mirei, and Mana signifies not only poignant goodbyes within the group but also the end of the first-generation chapter entirely. Members such as Kato Shihi and Higashimura Mei have previously announced their graduations, deepening the avocation of change within the celebrated group.

While the personal journeys of these three graduating members vary, their impact remains undoubtedly significant. Former captain Kumi has been supportive and encouraging from the sidelines, leading with integrity throughout her time. Mirei balances her time as both idol and model with grace, having served as the face of the prominent fashion magazine "non-no." Takase Mana's heartfelt expressions of gratitude echo the sentiments of many fans who have followed the group's evolution since its inception.

Hinatazaka46 now faces the task of moving forward without these foundational figures. Fans have showered the members with love and messages of appreciation for their extensive contributions to the group's success. Graduation is celebrated as more than endings; it serves as new beginnings. The members have expressed their hopes for future endeavors, continuing to support each other and the new generation of Hinatazaka46.

With the close of this first era of Hinatazaka46, each member’s unique experiences helped shape the group and will undoubtedly echo within its walls long after their departure. Onlookers have watched their growth and transformations over the years, wishing each member well as they step bravely toward what lies beyond their idol careers.
