Harry Amass Makes Debut On 18th Birthday As United Wins

The young left-back becomes the 253rd Academy graduate to feature for Manchester United, celebrating with teammates after the match.

Manchester United’s Harry Amass celebrated his 18th birthday with a memorable senior debut on March 16, 2025, during the club's convincing 3-0 victory over Leicester City, cementing his status as the club’s 253rd Academy graduate. Coming on as a substitute for Alejandro Garnacho 69 minutes in, Amass showcased his potential on what was already set to be a significant day.

United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, gave the young left-back the opportunity after Ayden Heaven was sidelined due to an injury shortly after halftime. The squad's youthfulness was evident, but United's blend of experience and fresh talent proved effective as they dominated Leicester, solidifying their position with three well-executed goals from Ramus Hojlund, Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes to climb to 13th place on the Premier League table.

“Making my debut is an incredible experience,” stated Amass after the match, reflecting on the joy of playing for such a historic club. Amass expressed gratitude for the support from his family and teammates, sharing the pride of achieving his dream debut. “I am just proud at the moment… and hopefully there are many more to come.”

true to their spirited nature, several of Amass’ teammates responded joyfully to his debut on social media. Amad Diallo was particularly light-hearted, celebrating Amass’ achievement by referring to him as his ‘son.’ “Congrats MY SON, DADY IS PROUD,” Diallo quipped on Instagram, encapsulating the camaraderie and fun within the squad.

Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes echoed similar sentiments, with Mount succinctly posting, “Proud of you brother @harryamass70,” symbolizing the support Amass has received as he navigates this new chapter of his career. Fernandes added, “Just the beginning,” indicating the promising future he sees for the young talent.

During his time on the pitch, Amass completed 10 out of 11 passes with remarkable accuracy (91%) and participated actively defensively, with four key defensive actions. “I’ve learnt so much from my teammates; they constantly guide me and help improve my game,” he stated, echoing gratitude for the learning environment at Manchester United. These experiences with seasoned players, he believes, provide invaluable knowledge as he progresses.

The club’s recent win over Leicester has invigorated their pursuit of climbing the Premier League ranks, improving their standing as they continue to build momentum. Amorim expressed pride in giving young players opportunities, noting their need to understand how fortunate they are to be part of such a significant club. “Harry Amass and all these young kids have to understand they are so lucky for playing for Manchester United,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of such moments for their development.

United, now just two points behind Crystal Palace, eye their next match against Nottingham Forest on April 1. This fixture promises to be another test as they look to solidify their place higher up the table. The club's youth, under the guidance of experienced mentors, looks set to flourish, with Amass just the latest example of the rich future Manchester United hopes to build.
