Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer Sparks Excitement For Summer Release

The legendary golfer returns this July after nearly 30 years, promising laughs and cameos from pro golfers and celebrities.

Golf enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as Netflix prepares to release "Happy Gilmore 2," the much-anticipated sequel to the classic 1996 comedy. The official teaser trailer for the film debuted on March 18, 2025, teasing fans with sneak peeks of both the hilarious hijinks and celebrity cameos awaiting them. Set to premiere on Netflix on July 25, 2025, this sequel marks the long-awaited return of Adam Sandler as the unforgettable Happy Gilmore.

Nearly three decades have passed since the original film captivated audiences with its blend of sports and slapstick humor. This time around, Sandler's character is returning to the golf course after years away, quipping, "I haven’t swung a club in years," as he prepares to face off against today’s biggest golfing stars. Those stars include heavyweights like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and legends Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, who also grace the trailer with their presence.

The film also boasts the return of key characters, with Christopher McDonald reprising his role as Shooter McGavin, Happy's competitive nemesis, and Julie Bowen returning as Virginia Venit, Happy’s romantic interest. Notably, the bright chemistry between these familiar faces promises to reinvigorate the nostalgia of fans who fell in love with the original.

Adding to the star-studded lineup, the film will include appearances by other celebrities such as NFL star Travis Kelce, rapper Eminem, and musician Bad Bunny. Notably, Big names like Kelce have been actively seeking roles, with Sandler confirming on "The Tonight Show" their involvement with excitement: "[Travis is] gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Sandler has gushed about how much care went to this sequel, expressing earlier during his promotional campaigns, "People have been asking me for a long time, ‘Do 'Happy Gilmore 2,’ and I was always like, ‘Nah, I’ll only let you down.’ But then me and my buddy, Tim Herlihy, we came up with this idea. We’re really excited about it.” This genuine excitement reflects Sandler’s concern for the fans’ affection for the original film and is apparent through the careful casting of golf legends and other stars helping to revive the franchise.

Pro Shop Studios has worked alongside the film's production team to bring the sports authenticity to life, integrating historic and contemporary appearances from various golf professionals to engage fans on all levels. Chad Mumm, the founder of Pro Shop, noted, "I think Adam’s experience doing [his 2022 basketball film] Hustle and really making basketball authentic, he wanted to bring some of the energy to Happy Gilmore. Obviously, it’s tonally very different, but they wanted the golf to feel really real, and they wanted present-day and historical pro golfers to come and make cameos."

Directed by Kyle Newacheck, who has previously collaborated with Sandler, this project aims at merging classic humor with modern-day star appeal. The trailer provides glimpses of light-hearted chaos, hinting at comedic moments as Happy Gilmore tackles today’s golf scene.

“We’re not done with golf,” insists Virginia Venit, delivering another classic line from the trailer, implying the importance of Happy Gilmore’s character and his ability to sway the golfing world. With fans eagerly awaiting its release, the combination of returning faces and new stars will see the film become as influential as ever.

Overall, fan anticipation continues to soar as they prepare to welcome Happy Gilmore back to the golf world. With Sandler leading the charge, all signs point to "Happy Gilmore 2" becoming not just another sequel but rather a resurgence of beloved characters and humor fans have longed for, making it a must-watch when it releases on July 25, 2025.
