Granada Experiences Wave Of Violent Robberies; Suspect Caught

A young man is arrested after attacking three women, including an elderly nun, during morning hours throughout Granada.

A crime spree in Granada has sparked concern among locals, following the violent assaults against three women, including a septuagenarian nun. The suspect, just 20 years old and without prior criminal records, has been arrested by the National Police after committing these robberies within hours on the same morning.

The first incident occurred before 8 AM on a prominent avenue in the northern district of the city. A woman on her way to work noticed someone following her and was soon approached from behind. She was violently attacked, receiving several blows to the face as the assailant attempted to snatch her handbag. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape, and the perpetrator fled the scene.

Just half an hour later, the suspect struck again, this time targeting another woman on her way to work. Recognizing the looming threat, she turned to face the approaching man, but he pushed her forcefully against the wall before wrenching her handbag from her grasp after breaking the leather strap. Inside her bag were 24 euros, identification documents, and public transport cards.

By approximately 9:15 AM, the suspect allegedly attacked his final victim, who was identified as a nun, also heading to her church. The attack was so brutal it caused her to fall to the ground, after which she was dragged along as the assailant ripped her handbag containing 460 euros, several lottery tickets, and her mobile phone.

Authorities were able to gather information about the suspect's clothing and other distinguishing features following these incidents. Acting swiftly, they managed to locate and apprehend the suspect, who is of Spanish nationality with Moroccan origins. During the arrest, police recovered not only the stolen items but also found over 571 euros, two mobile phones, and additional documents belonging to the victims.

This series of attacks has alarmed Granada's civilian population, leading to concerns about public safety, particularly for vulnerable individuals like women and the elderly. According to local law enforcement, discussions are underway to reinforce security measures within the community to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Police have stated they will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robberies to identify any additional charges or accomplices. The young man has been remanded to custody after being presented before judicial authorities, reflecting the serious nature of his alleged crimes.

Local residents have expressed their fears and frustrations, underscoring the need for increased vigilance within their neighborhoods. Many are calling for more foot patrols and heightened security measures, especially during early morning hours when these attacks occurred.

The impact of the crime wave is still being assessed, but the recent events have undoubtedly created ripples of unease within the community.
