Giornate FAI Di Primavera Celebrates Italy's Cultural Heritage

The annual event opens 750 unique sites across Italy, inviting the public to explore hidden treasures and celebrate local history.

Spring has officially sprung, and across Italy, a wave of cultural events is set to take place as part of the annual Giornate FAI di Primavera (FAI Spring Days). Celebrating its 33rd edition this weekend on March 22 and 23, 2025, the Italian National Trust, FAI, is once again opening the doors to 750 unique sites in over 400 cities, allowing the public to explore hidden historical and natural treasures.

This year is especially significant as the FAI is also celebrating its 50th anniversary, reflecting on decades of dedication to preserving Italy's rich cultural heritage. From historical buildings and museums to local parks and gardens, volunteers and guides will lead visitors through curated experiences designed to educate and inspire.

One of the standout highlights of the weekend is the opening of Palazzo Turina in Casalbuttano, part of the many notable sites accessible in Cremona. Visitors can also tour the beautiful church of San Benedetto, renowned for its stunning frescoes, and take in the sights of the historical center at Palazzo Raimondi and the church of San Facio.

Meanwhile, in Lombardy, a treasure trove of culture awaits, with places like Villa Mondragone offering insight into the majestic architecture of Italy’s past. Other highlights include guided visits to the Mita Cultural Center, presenting the largest collection of carpets in the world, and the reopening of the attic of Palazzo Loggia, showcasing its unique historical features.

The weekend is not just about exploring buildings but also includes an array of performances and community activities, such as in Agrigento, where theater lovers can enjoy a diverse lineup of shows. The performances at Teatro Pirandello and Teatro Posta Vecchia promise to be enriching cultural experiences, encapsulating Italy’s vibrant theater scene.

Celebrations in Agrigento are marked by a concert in the San Gerlando Cathedral on March 21 featuring maestro Diego Cannizzaro at the organ, honoring the composer Marco Enrico Bossi one century after his passing. The 21st edition of the Mezza Maratona della Concordia, also happening on March 23, intertwines sports and cultural exploration as the race winds through Agrigento’s historical landmarks.

For families interested in educational experiences, the Griffo Museum is hosting a workshop focusing on ancient Akragas to engage children with the seasonal changes celebrated by the Greeks, demonstrating the seamless blend of culture, education, and fun throughout the Giornate FAI di Primavera.

The event is anticipated to attract thousands, not just in cities like Cremona and Lombardy, but across the entire country, making it a must-see cultural event. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of conserving Italy's heritage, facilitating an educational journey that underlines the rich tapestry of the nation’s history.

As participants engage with local history, they'll also support the FAI's mission with voluntary contributions for site visits, enabling the continuation of preservation efforts for future generations. With the focus on collaboration and community involvement, the weekends will offer a unique opportunity to celebrate not just Italy's built heritage, but also its vibrant cultural identity.

Join the Giornate FAI di Primavera this weekend and immerse yourself in Italy's exceptional cultural legacy while supporting its ongoing preservation efforts.
