Fluctuations In Rice Prices Affect Bangkok Wholesale Market

Recent updates indicate varying prices for different rice types, impacting farmers and consumers alike.

As of March 24, 2025, the prices of various types of rice in Bangkok's wholesale market exhibit notable fluctuations according to the Rice Mills Association of Thailand.

The price of 100% Hom Mali rice, specifically grade 2 (67/68), ranges from 3000 to 3166 THB per metric ton.

In addition, the price for Pathum Thani Hom Mali rice is observed to be set between 350 and 2400 THB. Sticky rice from Isan, categorized as Kor. 6 and from harvest year 67/68, shows a price variation between 2600 and 2750 THB.

Furthermore, sticky rice from San Pa Tong, Chiang Mai, for the same year of harvest reflects a price range of 2450 to 2550 THB.

With the rice market constantly evolving, these prices have implications for both local farmers and consumers. Rising prices can be a boon for farmers, enabling them to earn more from their harvests. However, this can also mean increased costs for consumers, leading to concerns about affordability.

As Thailand is one of the world's major rice producers, fluctuations in rice prices can reverberate through the economy. It is crucial for stakeholders in agriculture and food security to monitor these changes closely.

Overall, the current rice pricing reflects broader trends in agricultural economics and consumer behavior in a pivotal sector of Thailand's economy.
