Fifa World Cup 2026 Official Commemorative Coins Unveiled

Commemorative coins celebrating the 2026 North America World Cup featuring Argentina, France, and Spain designs go on sale in South Korea with pre-orders starting June 9

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just a year away, excitement is building not only among football fans but also among collectors and enthusiasts of commemorative memorabilia. On June 5, 2025, the official commemorative coins for the North America World Cup were unveiled at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu, Seoul, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the tournament.

The coins were crafted by the mints of three football powerhouses—Argentina, France, and Spain—and were designed to celebrate the successful hosting of the upcoming World Cup while honoring the legacy of past tournaments. Argentina, the winner of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, lends a special historical touch to the collection, while France and Spain contribute their own unique artistic and cultural elements.

France’s mint issued two gold coins: a large, hefty 155.5-gram gold coin and a smaller 31.104-gram gold coin. These coins feature the official emblem of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ alongside the tournament’s slogan, “WE ARE 26,” on their fronts. The reverse side is adorned with iconic landmarks from the host countries—Canada’s CN Tower, Mexico’s El Castillo pyramid, and the United States’ Statue of Liberty—symbolizing the unity and diversity of the North American continent.

Argentina’s central bank contributed a 6.75-gram gold coin and a 27-gram silver coin, both rich in symbolism. The coins proudly display three stars, representing Argentina’s three World Cup victories, and pay tribute to the legendary Diego Maradona, who passed away five years ago. The design vividly captures Maradona’s famous “60-meter dribble goal” from the 1986 Mexico World Cup, where he skillfully maneuvered past six English defenders before scoring—a moment often hailed as one of the greatest goals in football history.

Spain’s mint added to the collection by issuing a set of three silver coins, including a special colored silver coin featuring the official FIFA World Cup 2026™ emblem. This colorful addition brings a modern flair to the otherwise classic collection, blending tradition with contemporary design.

Adding to the allure, the collection includes a 3D trophy replica made of gold-plated silver, available in both a substantial 1-kilogram version and a smaller 31.1-gram coin. These replicas offer fans a tangible connection to the prestigious tournament trophy itself, making the set a prized possession for collectors.

In South Korea, Poongsan Hwadongyang has been designated as the official distributor of these commemorative coins. The company hosted the unveiling event at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, which was attended by former professional footballer and current commentator Park Joo-ho, who posed for commemorative photos and lent his support to the launch.

Pre-orders for the coins will open on June 9, 2025, and run through June 20, 2025, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested buyers can place orders both online and offline. Offline sales will be conducted through branches of major banks including IBK Industrial Bank, NH Nonghyup Bank, Shinhan Bank, and post offices nationwide. The pricing reflects the premium nature of the coins: the large 155.5-gram gold coin from France is priced at 41,800,000 won, while the smaller 31.104-gram gold coin costs 7,970,000 won. Argentina’s 6.75-gram gold coin is available for 1,980,000 won. The silver coin set, comprising three types from France, Argentina, and Spain, is priced at 597,000 won, with the 27-gram Argentine silver coin costing 198,000 won. The 3D trophy replicas are offered at 8,360,000 won for the 1-kilogram gold-plated silver version and 660,000 won for the smaller 31.1-gram coin.

These commemorative coins serve not only as a celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup but also as a tribute to football’s rich heritage and the cultural landmarks of the host nations. Collectors and fans alike have a unique opportunity to own a piece of football history, encapsulated in exquisite craftsmanship and meaningful design.

As the countdown to the tournament continues, the unveiling of these coins in Seoul highlights the global anticipation surrounding the event. The collaboration between Argentina, France, and Spain in producing these coins underscores the shared passion and respect for the sport, while the inclusion of iconic landmarks and legendary moments connects fans to both the present and the past.

With the official sales beginning June 9, 2025, football enthusiasts and collectors have a limited window to secure these limited-edition coins. Whether as a keepsake, an investment, or a symbol of football fandom, the FIFA World Cup 2026 commemorative coins promise to be a treasured memento of one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events.
