FC Volendam Clinches Keuken Kampioen Divisie Title

Historic season culminates with record points and a hattrick from Henk Veerman

FC Volendam has officially clinched the championship of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Jong FC Utrecht on April 28, 2025. This win not only secures their promotion to the Eredivisie but also marks a historic moment for the club as they set a new record for the most points accumulated in a single season.

The team, managed by Rick Kruys, had already ensured their promotion prior to this match, but the championship title eluded them after a disappointing 1-4 defeat against Excelsior the previous week. However, they bounced back in style at De Galgenwaard, showcasing their resilience and determination.

FC Volendam took an early lead thanks to a stunning Tiki-Taka goal orchestrated by Bilal Ould-Chikh, Brandley Kuwas, Robert Mühren, and capped off by the in-form Henk Veerman. The top scorer of the competition, Veerman, was instrumental in this match, scoring a remarkable hattrick that turned the tide in Volendam's favor.

Despite their strong start, Volendam faced immediate pressure as Jong FC Utrecht responded quickly. Lynden Edhart equalized just four minutes after Veerman's opener, and Massien Ghaddari put the home side ahead 2-1 before halftime. This meant Volendam needed to fight back in the second half to secure the title.

After the break, Veerman emerged as the hero once more. In the 54th minute, he leveled the score with a powerful left-footed shot, igniting hope among the traveling fans. Twelve minutes later, he completed his hattrick with a spectacular bicycle kick, sending the 600 Volendam supporters into a frenzy.

With the score at 3-2, Volendam held firm for the remaining 25 minutes, successfully defending their lead and ensuring their place as champions of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. This victory marks the seventh time Volendam has secured the title at this level, with their last championship win dating back to the 2007/08 season.

In addition to the championship, Volendam has set a new club record for the most points in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 77 points set during their promotion in the 2007/08 season. With 79 points already on the board and two matches remaining against Roda JC Kerkrade and FC Dordrecht, the team has the opportunity to further enhance this record.

Moreover, Volendam is also on the verge of breaking their all-time record for most goals in a season. Currently sitting at 83 goals, they are closing in on the 90 goals scored during the 1966/67 season, which remains a benchmark for the club.

Rick Kruys, a local from Utrecht, expressed his pride in the team's achievement and the historical significance of the victory. "Winning the championship and breaking the points record is something we have worked incredibly hard for this season. The boys showed great character today, especially after last week's setback," he stated.

As FC Volendam celebrates this monumental achievement, fans and players alike are looking forward to their return to the Eredivisie, where they will aim to make a significant impact. The club's rich history and passionate fanbase will undoubtedly add to the excitement of their upcoming season in the top tier of Dutch football.

With the future looking bright, Volendam's journey continues as they prepare for their next matches, eager to build on their success and further solidify their place in Dutch football history.
