Fatal Wrong-Way Driver Causes Crash On Loop 410

Intoxicated driver’s actions lead to tragic loss of life and increased road safety concerns.

SAN ANTONIO — A fatal crash caused by a wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol has closed Loop 410 West on the northwest side of town Thursday morning.

According to police reports, officers responded to the westbound lanes of Loop 410 between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road around 2:15 AM after receiving reports of a crash. Initial investigations suggest the man was driving the wrong way when he collided with another vehicle. Authorities stated the situation escalated as the driver of the initially struck vehicle managed to exit his car and was then hit by another female driver.

The wrong-way driver was apprehended and reportedly tested nearly three times over the legal limit for alcohol consumption. "Castle Hills Police say the driver tested nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit," reported local news sources. Following this, he was arrested and may face additional charges related to the incident.

Tragically, the man who exited his vehicle was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Meanwhile, police indicated the woman who hit him with her vehicle would only face charges if she was found to be intoxicated at the time of the collision. The westbound lanes of Loop 410 remain closed between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road as investigators continue their inquiry.

This incident highlights the persistent dangers associated with wrong-way driving, particularly linked to impaired driving. Wrong-way crashes, though not as common as other types of collisions, often result in severe consequences for those involved. Local traffic authorities and law enforcement agencies have been collaborating to raise awareness and implement measures to prevent such tragic events.

Details about the identity of the deceased victim have not been released as the police continue their investigations, seeking to piece together the moments leading up to the fatality. Investigators are expected to analyze traffic camera footage and witness testimonies to gain insight.

This latest accident raises concerns about driving under the influence—a damaging behavior leading to numerous fatalities nationwide. The legal limit for blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08% for driving; exceeding this limit can severely impair judgment and coordination.

Law enforcement officials consistently warn against the risks of impaired driving and the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel. Many states, including Texas, have launched campaigns aimed at educating drivers on the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption and the potential consequences of getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Authorities continue to remind the public to be vigilant, to report erratic driving behaviors, and to plan for safe transportation options if consuming alcohol. Drivers must remain aware and considerate of traffic laws, as situations like the recent wrong-way crash can rapidly lead to devastating outcomes.

Police investigations are expected to continue as they seek to finalize reports on this tragic incident. The community remains on alert as roads are closed and reminders of the dangers of impaired driving permeate discussions around town.
