Fake IB Officer Arrested For Job Scam

A man masquerading as an Intelligence Bureau officer defrauded victims of Rs 20 lakh by promising government jobs.

A man posing as an Intelligence Bureau officer was arrested for defrauding four individuals of Rs 20 lakh by falsely promising them jobs in the finance ministry and Jaipur Development Authority. The arrest was made following a complaint filed by the victims.

Identified as Srinivas Kumar Choubey, the accused posed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the IB to scam money from individuals, reported DCP (East) Tejaswini Gautam. The victims, Nitin Kumar, Akash Singh, Rahul Faujdar, and Jitendra Singh, filed their complaint at the Airport Police Station on February 8.

The police acted swiftly after the complaint, launching an investigation which led to the apprehension of Choubey on Sunday. Officers conducted a raid at Kanha Residency, located near the Ramnagariya police station, where Choubey was arrested.

The scheme involved Choubey allegedly promising the victims lucrative jobs within the government sectors, including the finance ministry and the Jaipur Development Authority, for which he extracted Rs 5 lakh from each of them, summing up to Rs 20 lakh.

DCP Gautam confirmed the arrest: "The accused posed as a DSP of the IB to swindle Rs 20 lakh from the victims." The diligence of the police investigation was evident as they seized evidence during the raid.

During the operation, investigators uncovered a car with government insignia, equipped with 'Government of India' number plates, raising alarm about the extent of Choubey’s impersonation.

Choubey’s arrest highlights the vulnerabilities many face when it involves job offers. Such scams prey on individuals seeking employment, leveraging the allure of governmental affiliations. DCP Gautam urged caution, advising prospective employees to thoroughly verify their job offers and the credentials of those making them.

This incident has not only unraveled deception on the part of Choubey but serves as a reminder of the challenges against such frauds. Authorities assert their commitment to tackling employment scams, reaffirming their presence to protect prospective employees from falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

"The victims filed the complaint at the Airport Police Station," DCP (East) Gautam added, confirming the importance of immediate reporting to aid police investigations effectively.

Victims of similar scams are encouraged to come forward, as police seek to build stronger cases and possibly expose broader fraudulent networks. With the assistance of the public, law enforcement aims to deter future instances of fraud and safeguard job seekers.

Authorities are hopeful this case will discourage similar scams moving forward. By reinforcing awareness and encouraging individuals to voice concerns, they aspire to reduce the prevalence of such fraudulent acts.
