A former police officer has been sentenced to 19 years behind bars for stealing cocaine from police evidence stores and supplying the drugs to criminals. Andrew Talbot, 54, of Leigh, Greater Manchester, was caught after dropping a bag of the Class A drug outside his daughter's primary school, leading to his arrest and shocking revelations about his misconduct.
Talbot worked as a detective constable for Greater Manchester Police's anti-corruption unit and was found guilty of multiple charges, including misconduct in public office and supplying Class A drugs. The court heard he took nearly 4 kilograms of cocaine with a retail value approaching £400,000 from the police property store.
The investigation began on February 13, 2020, when CCTV footage captured Talbot dropping the small bag of cocaine outside the school shortly after dropping off his daughter. Three days later, he was arrested at work with approximately 26.8 grams of high-purity cocaine and smaller amounts of lower-quality cocaine.
