Eva Soriano To Host Nochevieja Gala 2025

The comedian addresses body criticism and supports female presenters as New Year approaches.

Eva Soriano, one of Spain's most beloved comedians and television hosts, is set to ring in the New Year as the host of Televisión Española's Nochevieja gala, welcoming the audience to 2025. Known for her dynamic presence and humor, Soriano has become the face of modern Spanish comedy, greatly celebrated since her breakthrough on 'El club de la comedia.'

With her own comedy program 'Showriano' on Movistar and participation on other popular shows like 'Tu Cara Me Suena' and 'Zapeando,' Soriano has established herself as one of the most recognized figures on the airwaves and social media. While some see her laughter and joy as just part of the job, the comedian doesn't shy away from discussing the pressures and criticisms women face, particularly those like her who are often judged for their appearance.

Recently, Soriano tackled the issue during her segment on the program 'Cuerpos especiales,' addressing the harsh scrutiny many female presenters endure as they transition from 2024 to 2025. She noted, "It’s incredible to think we continue facing the same issues this late. Women on screen constantly undergo scrutiny whereas men largely escape this criticism." Her remarks come amid heightened discussions on the treatment and portrayal of women, sparking debates and highlighting the inequities still present today.

Reflecting on the societal biases, she humorously contrasted the way male hosts, like Ramón García, escape ridicule when he hosts the countdown to the New Year. She joked, "Nobody ever says, 'hey, he’s put on some weight' or questions his attire; he’s been doing this for 20 years and no one bats an eye.” Yet, women who fit beauty standards are also harshly judged, pointing to this pervasive culture of criticism and expectations.

Soriano has also shared parts of her life beyond the camera. Born in Tarragona back in 1990, she has evolved from aspiring to be a singer, going through numerous rejections, to owning her own comedy club, Golfo Comedy Club, located in the heart of Madrid. Despite not being labeled as wealthy, her progress has been impressive.

Through candid interviews, she has revealed her early desires to follow music, having studied singing. Those aspirations were stymied by repeated rejections, pushing her toward comedy. Soriano has passionately dedicated herself to her career, sharing her experiences of failure as key to her success: "Thanks to all those who said ‘no’ during my youth, I became the comedian I am today." This life lesson of resilience has paid off, elevatively enhancing her profile among Spain's entertainment elite.

Beyond the stage and the microphone, Soriano has not hidden her personal life and has been rumored to have been involved with actor Maxi Iglesias. The couple was often seen together, which only added fuel to tabloids, but Soriano has often kept her dating life private, focusing more on her professional endeavors.

The reality of women's representation and the undue pressure they face is not lost on Soriano, who emphasizes the need for empathy and positivity. During her segment, she also extended solidarity to her fellow presenters including Cristina Pedroche and Laura Escanes, wishing everyone on air success as they ushered the New Year.

And as for impending Nochevieja celebrations, Soriano remarked, "May this night be full of laughter, love, and success for all the talented women presenting this year! Cheers to 2025!" Her words echo her passion to uplift and support fellow female colleagues against the backdrop of the pervasive challenges they face.

Through humor and advocacy, Eva Soriano continues to challenge societal norms, aiming to initiate conversations around beauty standards and the treatment of women on television. Her hosting role on New Year's Eve is not just another job; it’s part of her broader narrative challenging age-old stereotypes and advocating for change.
