Estopa Celebrates 25 Years With Upcoming Tour

Brothers David and Jose Muñoz prepare for summer festival performances after releasing their latest album Estopía.

Celebrating 25 years of musical success, the iconic Spanish duo Estopa, comprised of brothers David and Jose Muñoz, is gearing up for a summer tour following the release of their latest album, Estopía, in 2024. The brothers, who have become household names in Spain, will visit major cities including Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, and Asturias as part of their Estopa Fest 2025 tour.

On April 22, 2025, the Muñoz brothers will appear on the popular television program El Hormiguero to discuss their long-awaited tour and reflect on their journey in the music industry. Their story began on October 18, 1999, when they released their debut album, which quickly became a sensation, selling over a million copies and establishing them as leaders in the rumba and pop rock genres.

David Muñoz, born on January 10, 1976, recently celebrated his 49th birthday. He has been with his wife, Mari Paz, since 1992, and they married during their 2000 tour. Mari Paz played a crucial role in Estopa's early career, famously taking their demo to various record labels, including BMG, Universal, EMI, and Polygram. "Mari Paz loved our songs and decided to go to all the record labels with the demo," the brothers recalled in an interview.

Jose Muñoz, the younger brother born on November 13, 1978, is married to Paloma, whom he met in their hometown of Zarza-Capilla. The couple tied the knot in 2010 and share a son, Pablo, who is now 12 years old. The Muñoz brothers have often emphasized the importance of their humble beginnings, having worked at Novel Lahnwerk, a SEAT factory, before their music career took off.

During their time at SEAT, the brothers began to compose songs that reflected their everyday lives. Their boss would encourage them with the phrase "¡Dadle estopa!" which later inspired the name of their band. In 1998, they won a local singer-songwriter contest with their song Luna lunera, which led to the recording of their first demo and ultimately their debut album.

Over the years, Estopa has released nine original albums, along with numerous live and compilation albums, solidifying their status as one of Spain's most beloved music acts. The duo has received numerous accolades, including 70 platinum records and a Gold Medal for Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish royal family in 2024.

As they prepare for their summer festival tour, the brothers are excited to connect with fans and share their music. "In festivals, we do a normal concert with our songs. It's a luxury to share the stage with other artists," David stated, reflecting on the significance of performing at these events.

Despite their fame, the Muñoz brothers maintain a down-to-earth lifestyle. They are active on social media, boasting 796,000 followers on Instagram, where they often share glimpses of their personal lives and interactions with other celebrities. Recently, they posted a photo with footballer Lamine Yamal and artist Morad, further showcasing their connection to contemporary culture.

In addition to music, the brothers have ventured into real estate, owning properties in various locations across Catalonia and Madrid. David manages a company called Las Dos Zarzas SL, while Jose founded Mumuca SL, both focusing on artistic and literary creation. Their success in music has enabled them to build a stable life outside of their musical endeavors.

During their appearance on El Hormiguero, the brothers reminisced about their favorite concerts, highlighting performances by Dani Martín, Joaquín Sabina, and Extremoduro. David expressed his admiration for a concert by Dani Martín in Barcelona, while Jose reflected on the emotional impact of seeing Joaquín Sabina perform.

As they celebrate their 25th anniversary, Estopa continues to resonate with fans of all ages, bridging generational gaps with their timeless music. They acknowledge the changing landscape of the music industry and the new audience that attends their concerts, some of whom may not be familiar with their early work.

In a lighthearted moment, David shared his struggles with hypochondria and vertigo, while Jose humorously noted that he often closes his eyes while singing, a habit he attributes to his grandfather. This candidness adds a personal touch to their public persona, endearing them even further to their fans.

As Estopa embarks on this new chapter, their legacy as one of Spain's most influential musical acts remains secure. The brothers are not just artists but also relatable figures who have navigated the challenges of fame while staying true to their roots.

With their upcoming tour set to begin, fans are eager to see what the future holds for Estopa. As they prepare to hit the stage once again, the Muñoz brothers are ready to prove that after 25 years, they still have much to give.
