Battlestate Games has announced the upcoming release of Patch 0.16.0.0 for their popular game, Escape from Tarkov (EFT), scheduled to go live on December 26, 2023. This substantial update will introduce numerous features and significant changes to the gameplay experience, captivating the community's attention.
One of the most notable aspects of Patch 0.16.0.0 is the extensive rework of the Customs map. The existing textures and materials will be refreshed, alongside notable alterations to various buildings. Players can expect to explore three additional industrial buildings, as well as encounter new objects such as exploding propane tanks. These enhancements aim to enrich the visual quality and gameplay dynamics.
Alongside the map changes, the update will introduce a new system called 'Prestige.' This exciting feature allows players to reset their character's progress at level 55 to gain Prestige levels, unlocking unique rewards as they do so. Initially, this system will be implemented within the PvP mode, with future updates expected to expand rewards available for PvE mode and EFT: Arena. To initiate this reset, players must achieve certain skill levels, complete specific tasks, and possess required items, creating new objectives to strive for.
The Prestige system will feature two levels at launch, with plans for eight more levels to be added later. These Prestige levels won’t be reset with subsequent wipes, providing players with long-term recognition of their achievements. Rewards include unique gear such as armbands, dog tags, new hideout styles, and special gestures. Added tasks and unique melee weapons will also be part of Prestige offerings, promoting continuous gameplay interest.
An innovative healing mechanic called 'Continuous Healing' will also debut, allowing players to use healing items to restore health over time across all damaged body parts. Should the player sustain injuries, they can also heal these conditions incrementally. A new keybind will facilitate this Continuous Healing for smoother gameplay.
Patch 0.16.0.0 will also incorporate hidden extraction points, termed 'Hidden Exfils,' which can be activated only upon discovering special raid-exclusive items. Despite this limitation, players may still escape without these items. Hidden extraction points will be available across eight maps, including Customs, Shoreline, and Factory, enhancing the game's strategic elements.
Additional features include new tasks associated with driving armored vehicles such as BTRs, customizable hideouts, and the ability to visit friends' hideouts. Numerous fixes and adjustments will accompany these additions, and players are encouraged to check the official patch notes for comprehensive details.
According to the developers, the update's anticipated download time is around eight hours, with implementation expected around midnight (JST) on December 27. Nevertheless, they caution players to expect possible delays as they work to finalize the update.
Ahead of the release, the Escape from Tarkov community is currently engaged in a pre-wipe event, featuring the traditional Fire Sale, where traders are selling items at drastically reduced prices—only 1 rouble. This event allows players to stock up on gear and prepare for the upcoming wipe, where all player data will reset.
Conceptually, the Fire Sale serves as both a celebration and preparation phase prior to the wipe, fostering motivation among players to maximize their last-minute playtime. Rapid engagement with the new content is anticipated.
Through these updates, Battlestate Games is continually enhancing Escape from Tarkov's complex gameplay, keeping players invested and excited for what’s forthcoming. The community's response to these changes remains positive, eagerly awaiting results from the newly implemented systems.
