Enem 2025 Registration Fee Exemption Period Begins

Students can apply for fee exemptions and justify absences until April 25, 2025.

The period to request exemption from the Enem 2025 registration fee is officially open from April 14 to April 25, 2025. This initiative, managed by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), allows eligible candidates to participate in Brazil's crucial high school examination without the financial burden of the registration fee.

To apply for the fee exemption, candidates must exclusively use the Participant's Page, accessing it through the single login of the federal government services portal, Gov.br. They will need to provide their Cadastro de Pessoa Física (CPF) number and date of birth, ensuring that their personal data matches what is registered with the Federal Revenue.

Eligibility for the exemption is based on specific socioeconomic criteria. INEP offers free registration to students enrolled in the third year of high school in public schools for the year 2025, as well as to those who completed all of their high school education in public schools or as full scholarship students in private institutions. Additionally, students with a monthly income equal to or less than one and a half minimum wages (R$ 2,277 in 2025) can also qualify.

Furthermore, individuals facing socioeconomic vulnerability who are registered in the Cadastro Único for Social Programs (CadÚnico) of the federal government are eligible, as are participants in the Pé-de-Meia program from the Ministry of Education (MEC). To secure the exemption, candidates must provide documentation proving that they meet these criteria, as specified in Annex II of the official notice.

For those who received the exemption last year but failed to attend one or both days of the 2024 examination, a justification for their absence is required to maintain their eligibility for the 2025 exemption. This justification must also be submitted through the Participant's Page within the same time frame, from April 14 until 11:59 PM on April 25, 2025.

INEP has outlined acceptable reasons for absence, which include events such as theft, traffic accidents, family emergencies, or medical issues. Each reason must be supported by appropriate documentation as detailed in the official notice.

On May 12, 2025, INEP will announce the results of the exemption requests as well as the acceptance of justifications for absences from the previous year. Candidates will then have the opportunity to appeal any rejections from May 12 to May 16, with the results of these appeals to be released on May 22, 2025.

The Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio, established in 1998, plays a critical role in assessing the academic performance of students at the end of high school. Participants who have not yet completed their high school education can still take the exam as "treineiros" (test-takers), with their results serving solely for self-assessment purposes.

The scores from the Enem are utilized in various selection processes coordinated by the Ministry of Education, including the Unified Selection System (Sisu), the University for All Program (ProUni), and the Student Financing Fund (Fies). Moreover, the exam results are recognized by educational institutions in Portugal that have agreements with INEP, facilitating access for Brazilian students wishing to pursue higher education there.

As the deadline approaches, students are encouraged to prepare adequately for the examination, which covers a broad range of subjects studied throughout high school. There are numerous resources available to assist in study preparation, including free online courses and study plans.

In summary, the window for applying for the exemption from the Enem registration fee is a vital opportunity for many students across Brazil, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their access to education and future opportunities. With the right preparations and documentation, eligible candidates can take full advantage of this initiative.
