The Disney Adventure is nearing another major milestone as it moves forward to become part of the Disney Cruise Line fleet later this year. The ship, currently in Pappenberg, Germany, is set to float out. In a post on social media, the news was revealed. It showed the massive ship preparing to leave the building where it was built with the caption, “We’re getting ready for something magical.”
The Disney Adventure will join the Disney Cruise Line fleet with its inaugural voyage on December 15, 2025, in Singapore. This will be just about a month after the Disney Destiny, a Wish-class ship themed to “heroes and villains,” joins the fleet. The new ship has Mickey Mouse on the filigree on its bow. The stern will feature sculptures of both Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. This is a first for a Disney Cruise Line ship.
The Disney Adventure, formerly the Global Dream, was purchased by Disney in 2022. It is a Global-class ship and will sail out of Singapore for at least five years. The ship is being constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. The Disney Adventure will offer sailings that are full of magic. This includes a Captain Jack Sparrow show, a Marvel Style Studio, a Disney Princess tea, a Duffy and Friends show and store, Bibbidi Bobbiti Boutique, and a whole lot more.
On April 19, 2025, the Disney Adventure is set to be undocked from the Meyer Wismar shipyard, where it has been under construction since 2022. The event is highly anticipated, as it will be the first time the ship is seen in its entirety. Two tugs are reportedly on their way from Bremerhaven to assist in pulling the ship out of the shipyard hall.
In a statement shared on social media, Disney Cruise Line Singapore and Disney Parks commented, “We’re getting ready for something magical,” alongside a picture of the new cruise ship ready to sail out of its warehouse. The ship features Captain Mickey on its bow medallion and is the first Disney Cruise Line ship to feature both Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie as its stern figures.
The Disney Adventure is unique in that it began as the Global Dream, which was ordered by Genting Hong Kong but was only partially constructed before Disney acquired it. This makes it the one and only Global-class ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Construction is being completed by Meyer Werft at their Papenburg, Germany shipyard.
The ship's maiden voyage is set to begin on December 15, 2025, just a month after the launch of the Wish-class Disney Destiny, which was recently set afloat for the first time. The Disney Destiny will also feature a new Captain Jack Sparrow show, the Marvel Style Studio, a Disney Princess afternoon tea, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and the first-ever Duffy and Friends show and store aboard Disney Cruise Line.
With a ship length of 342 meters, a width of 46 meters, and a measurement of 208,000 BRZ, the Disney Adventure will be one of the largest cruise ships ever built in Germany. Originally, it was planned to accommodate up to 9,500 passengers and a crew of about 2,000. However, after Disney took over, it is now designed to hold about 6,000 passengers.
The story of the Disney Adventure is intertwined with the fate of its original builders. Genting Hong Kong, the company that initially commissioned the ship, faced financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its insolvency in 2022. The ship was then acquired by Disney for a fraction of the estimated construction costs, reportedly paying around 40 million euros, while investing significantly more in its redesign and completion.
As the ship prepares for its maiden voyage, extensive machine and propulsion tests will be conducted at the Wismar harbor over the coming months. Following these tests, the ship will undergo sea trials in the Baltic Sea. The Disney Adventure is expected to be officially put into service by the end of this year, with Singapore designated as its home port until at least 2030.
Many of the workers who were previously involved in the construction of the Disney Adventure will find new opportunities at the shipyard, which has since been acquired by Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). This new ownership is expected to lead to the construction of military vessels, providing a new avenue for employment in the region.
As anticipation builds for the Disney Adventure's debut, fans and potential passengers are eager to see what magic awaits them aboard the ship. With unique features and a commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences, the Disney Adventure promises to be a remarkable addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
