Emma Raducanu Dominates Amanda Anisimova At Miami Open

Following her latest victory, Raducanu reflects on her journey and prepares for a quarter-final clash with Jessica Pegula.

Emma Raducanu has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open after a commanding victory against Amanda Anisimova, demonstrating her return to form and resilience on the tennis court. In a match that showcased Raducanu's dominance, she defeated the American seed in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, marking her first appearance in the last eight of a WTA 1000 tournament.

The match took place on March 25, 2025, where the British No. 2 Raducanu displayed exceptional skill and determination. She began the match with an explosive start, breaking Anisimova's serve in the opening game and quickly establishing a 3-0 lead. In fact, Raducanu managed not to drop a single point on her serve during the entire first set, which lasted just 24 minutes.

Despite concerns over Anisimova’s on-court fitness, which led her to call for the physio at the end of the first set, Raducanu retained her focus and control throughout the match. After receiving treatment for her wrist injury, Anisimova struggled to respond to Raducanu’s relentless pressure. Commentators observed that Anisimova appeared frustrated, with Sky Sports’ Annabel Croft remarking, “She’s being humiliated” as Raducanu continued to dominate the game.

Raducanu’s second set performance was marked by consistent play, breaking her opponent’s serve for a 3-1 advantage. Although Anisimova finally held serve in the fifth game, Raducanu quickly regained momentum, breaking serve again in the sixth game for a comprehensive victory that concluded after 68 minutes.

After her match, Raducanu reflected on her progress, stating, “I’ve come a long way in the last week.” She contrasted her current form with her disappointing first-round exit at Indian Wells earlier this month, emphasizing the importance of trust and support from her team. “This week I have some really good people around me who I trust and who I have fun with off the court as well, and that is extremely important,” she noted.

As Raducanu looks ahead to her quarter-final match against world number four Jessica Pegula, she acknowledges the shift in her mindset that has contributed to her recent success. “When I play my best, I’m definitely authentic, true to myself and creative,” she explained, highlighting her need to express herself freely on the court. Raducanu’s improved performance illustrates her capacity to adapt and grow through challenges, embodying the tenacity that she’s renowned for.

The Miami Open continues to see surprising developments with other players, including the elimination of former champion Coco Gauff by unseeded Polish player Magda Linette. Gauff’s loss, alongside the advance of Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Danielle Collins, highlights the competitive landscape at this prestigious tournament.

In the men’s draw, Alexander Zverev progressed successfully, overcoming Jordan Thompson in straight sets, while Australia’s Alex de Minaur fought back to win his match against Joao Fonseca. The Miami Open remains a platform for thrilling tennis action, with fans eagerly anticipating the next rounds and matches to come.
