Egypt Braces For Severe Weather From Ghada Storm

Authorities warn of rain and strong winds disrupting daily life across the country.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has warned citizens of the severe weather conditions approaching due to the Ghada storm, which is set to bring significant rainfall and strong winds across various regions of Egypt on February 20, 2025.

This storm is expected to create instability along the northern Mediterranean coast, particularly affecting cities such as Alexandria. The EMA reported, "It is expected to have light to moderate rain periods throughout many areas, with significant wind activity, particularly along the northern coast." These predictions come as part of the EMA's commitment to keeping the public informed about impending weather threats.

The anticipated conditions include moderate daytime temperatures across the country, with Cairo experiencing maximum temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, and cooler nighttime temperatures dropping to about 11 degrees. Meanwhile, southern regions like South Sinai are expected to remain warm, with highs up to 23 degrees Celsius.

Along the coastal areas, the EMA indicated the possibility of heavy wind activity, reaching speeds of 38 kilometers per hour. Such winds are likely to exacerbate the days of rain expected to cause disruptions not just on land, but at sea as well.

The condition of the Mediterranean Sea has already been categorized as turbulent. Wave heights are predicted to rise significantly, ranging from 2.5 to 4 meters, presenting serious challenges for maritime navigation. The EMA advised caution for all marine activities under these adverse weather forecasts.

On the other hand, the situation is less severe across southern regions, where temperatures are more stable and rainfall is not expected. Nevertheless, as temperatures fluctuate across the nation, the people of Egypt are advised to prepare for these dramatic weather changes.

Upon reviewing the weather patterns set to affect Egypt, the EMA noted the importance of taking precautions, especially for those traveling outside. The EMA warned, "Temperatures are expected to significantly decrease, which aligns with the onset of the Ghada storm." This indicates not just colder nights, but also immediate concerns for public safety as morning temperatures plummet.

Starting from February 21, there is potential for temperatures to drop between 3-4 degrees, accompanied by rain activity persisting across various northern regions. The EMA mentioned light rains with intermittent heavy showers could be expected later this week. The full extent of this weather system’s impact will be closely monitored and reported to prevent any emergencies.

The public will be requested to remain vigilant and adhere to the EMA's forecasts. The storm may bring about challenges to daily life and impact travel plans, particularly for those living near the coast or planning to engage in maritime activities.

With the storm’s approach, it is clear Egypt is gearing up to face the effects of the Ghada storm with the EMA providing continuous updates to inform residents of safety protocols to follow during this weather event. Residents are encouraged to stay connected for daily forecasts and advisories.

Egypt's commitment to ensuring public safety during severe weather crises like this highlights the role of the EMA as not only forecasters but as pivotal components of national preparedness and recovery strategies.
