New Delhi: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has announced that all flights operating from Terminal 2 will shift to Terminal 1, starting from April 15, 2025, due to major maintenance and runway upgrade work being undertaken there. This move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve passenger experience at Terminal 2.
Major Indian air carriers, including IndiGo Airlines, Air India, and Akasa Air, have begun issuing travel advisories, urging passengers to check updated schedules as the runway work may lead to delays or rescheduling. "Effective 15th April 2025 (0001 hrs), all flights currently operating from Terminal 2 will shift to Terminal 1 until further notice. This change is due to planned maintenance work at Terminal 2, which will remain non-operational during this period," stated the airport authorities.
IndiGo has specifically advised passengers to check their terminal and flight status on the airline’s official website before heading to the airport, as flight schedules may have been altered. “Given a planned maintenance activity, flights previously scheduled from Delhi Terminal 2 have now been reassigned to Terminal 1 starting April 15, 2025. We kindly request you to check the terminal details and your flight status on our website before heading to the airport, as there may be changes to flight schedules as well,” IndiGo stated in a post on X.
The shift is part of an infrastructure revamp, with Terminal 2 set to undergo refurbishment for four to six months, expected to be completed by the September quarter of the next financial year. Meanwhile, the expansion and modernization of Terminal 1 have been completed as part of the Phase 3A expansion project, allowing for a more streamlined operation.
As travelers prepare for this significant change, officials emphasize the importance of checking flight statuses to avoid any inconvenience. The maintenance work at Terminal 2 is crucial for ensuring the airport can accommodate the increasing number of passengers effectively.
IndiGo reiterated its commitment to providing a smooth travel experience during this transition. Passengers are encouraged to arrive early at the airport to allow sufficient time for any potential delays caused by the relocation of flights. The airline's advisory serves as a reminder of the importance of staying informed about travel plans, especially during periods of significant operational changes.
In summary, starting April 15, 2025, all flights from Terminal 2 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will be redirected to Terminal 1 until further notice, as maintenance work is set to take place. Passengers are urged to remain vigilant about their travel details and check for updates frequently.
