The ongoing custody battle between singer and actress Halle Bailey and rapper DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., has taken a dramatic turn as DDG filed an emergency motion to prevent Bailey from taking their son, Halo, out of the country. The motion, filed on June 4, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court, comes just days before Bailey's planned trip to Italy on June 7, where she intends to work while caring for their infant son.
Bailey, 25, was granted sole custody of Halo and a temporary restraining order against DDG in May 2025 after accusing him of physical and emotional abuse during their relationship. The singer alleged that DDG physically attacked her multiple times in the presence of their 18-month-old son, including an incident where she claims he slammed her face into a steering wheel, causing a chipped tooth. These allegations led to the temporary restraining order and custody arrangement favoring Bailey.
However, DDG, 27, has vehemently denied all accusations of abuse. In a counter-petition filed simultaneously with his emergency motion, he claimed that Bailey was the actual aggressor in their relationship. He alleges that she repeatedly punched and slapped him, stalked him by hiding Airtags in his cars, and used emotional manipulation tactics including threats of self-harm. According to DDG, Bailey has threatened suicide on multiple occasions, at times wielding a knife and even his legally owned firearm.
One particularly alarming incident cited by DDG occurred in August 2023 during a heated argument. He stated that Bailey became enraged, took his firearm without his consent, left the house, and was later found outside holding the gun while she was pregnant. DDG's legal team emphasized the danger of such behavior, arguing that a parent who has repeatedly threatened suicide and armed herself during emotional crises is not fit to care for a vulnerable infant, especially abroad without court supervision or child protective services.
Adding to the complexity, DDG alleges that Bailey attempted to have an abortion without informing him but ultimately decided against it, resulting in the birth of their son, Halo. He also claims that Bailey has used their son as a tool for manipulation, blocking his access to Halo and threatening harm to both herself and the child through text messages. His court filing includes disturbing texts from Bailey, such as "IM GOONG TO KILL MYSWLF TONIGHT" and "I am simply not tough enough for this world. Please take Halo so he doesn’t have to see." These messages, if authenticated, paint a troubling picture of Bailey’s mental state in the months following Halo’s birth.
DDG is requesting the court to block Bailey from taking Halo on the Italy trip, citing the emotional and psychological risks involved. He is also seeking sole legal and physical custody of their son. Should the court deny sole custody, he has asked that all custody exchanges be supervised by a neutral third party to ensure the child’s safety and well-being.
Bailey’s attorney, Terry Levich Ross, responded to DDG’s counterclaims during a hearing on June 4, calling them "not accurate." The judge, Latrice A.G. Byrdsong, indicated she would issue a decision soon regarding Bailey’s request to take Halo to Italy. A full hearing is scheduled for June 24 to resolve the competing petitions for permanent restraining orders and custody arrangements.
Bailey has also filed motions seeking to deny DDG’s request to block travel and to prohibit him, along with his family and friends, from posting about their son or the ongoing litigation on social media platforms. She highlighted that DDG waited until June 4 to file his motion, despite ignoring her efforts to facilitate monitored visits since the issuance of the temporary restraining order on May 13.
In her court documents addressing the Italy trip, Bailey assured the court that a nanny and family members would accompany her to care for Halo while she works, underscoring her intent to provide a supportive environment during the filming schedule. This was part of the court-approved arrangement granted on May 15.
Both parties have presented starkly contrasting narratives, with the public caught in the middle of a highly charged and emotional dispute. Bailey’s allegations of abuse have been met with denials and counter-allegations by DDG, who portrays Bailey as mentally unstable and a danger to their child. The court will have to weigh these conflicting claims carefully, considering the welfare of their young son as the paramount concern.
The legal battle highlights the complexities that can arise in co-parenting situations marked by accusations of abuse and mental health struggles. It also raises questions about parental rights, child safety, and the challenges of navigating custody disputes when both parents accuse each other of harmful behavior.
As the June 24 hearing approaches, both Bailey and DDG remain under intense scrutiny, with the court’s decisions poised to have lasting impacts on their family dynamics. For now, the judge’s upcoming rulings on travel and custody will determine the immediate future of Halo’s care and the boundaries between his parents.
