Black Clover Anime Returns With New Season In 2026

Crunchyroll announces exclusive streaming of Black Clover’s new season with Studio Pierrot returning to animate the series, marking the manga’s 10th anniversary and reigniting fan excitement after a four-year hiatus

Fans of the magical world of Black Clover have a reason to celebrate as the beloved anime series is officially returning for a new season in 2026. The announcement was made during Crunchyroll's Anime Expo 2025 Industry Panel on July 5, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Alongside the exciting news, a teaser trailer and a key visual were unveiled, providing a tantalizing glimpse into what lies ahead for the story of Asta and Yuno.

Crunchyroll confirmed it will exclusively stream the upcoming season, ensuring fans worldwide can catch every thrilling moment. Studio Pierrot, the animation studio behind the original series and the feature film, is set to return to bring the new episodes to life. This continuation comes after a four-year hiatus following the original anime's conclusion in March 2021 after 170 episodes.

The original Black Clover anime first premiered in Japan in October 2017. Initially planned for 51 episodes, it quickly expanded into multiple seasons, with new installments launching in October 2018 and October 2019. The series garnered a loyal following thanks to its dynamic storytelling, compelling characters, and intense magical battles.

The anime is based on Yūki Tabata's manga, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the manga has since moved to the quarterly Jump GIGA magazine as of late 2023, and boasts 36 volumes as of February 2024. Viz Media publishes the manga digitally and in print, while Shueisha's MANGA Plus service offers digital access globally.

At the Anime Expo panel, a heartfelt message from Tabata was shared with fans: "The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I'm beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going! I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that's going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!"

The new season, sometimes referred to as the 'Black Clover Second Season,' is anticipated to debut in 2026, approximately five years after the original series ended. This timeline aligns with typical production cycles for high-quality anime sequels, especially those featuring upgraded visuals and refined storytelling.

Adding to the excitement, leaks from Weekly Shonen Jump's Issue #32, released on July 3, 2025, confirmed the sequel's production was underway. The leak included a powerful new visual of Asta in his Devil Union form, as well as refreshed character designs for Asta and Liebe. Accompanying this was the promise of a special promotional video slated for release around July 7 on official platforms, which is expected to offer fans behind-the-scenes insights and possibly a teaser trailer.

The Black Clover universe has expanded beyond the anime series. In 2023, the feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King premiered in Japan before debuting on Netflix worldwide. Directed by Ayataka Tanemura, who also contributed to the anime's second half, the film offers a self-contained story that complements the series without impacting the main manga continuity. Critics note that while the film is not considered canon, it provides newcomers with an accessible introduction to the Black Clover world and serves as a thrilling experience for long-time fans alike.

Fans eager to prepare for the new season have plenty to catch up on. The original series, spanning four seasons and 170 episodes, is available on Crunchyroll and Netflix. The film is exclusively on Netflix, though viewers should be aware of its non-canonical status. The story follows Asta and Yuno, two orphans raised in a world where magic reigns supreme. While Yuno is gifted with extraordinary magical powers, Asta is born without any magic but wields a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates spells. Their journey to become the Wizard King pits them against formidable foes and tests their resolve, friendship, and strength.

With the new season on the horizon, anticipation is building for what promises to be an action-packed continuation of this magical saga. Crunchyroll's initial teaser and visual only scratch the surface of what's to come. Fans worldwide will be watching closely for further updates, ready to dive back into the enchanting and perilous world of Black Clover.
