Daikei Anna Announces Departure From TV Tokyo Amid Future Plans

The renowned announcer seeks to embrace personal time and cultural experiences following her significant tenure.

Daikei Anna, one of TV Tokyo's prominent announcers, has announced her departure from the network at the end of June. The 46-year-old cited her desire to 'take it easy' as the primary reason for leaving, indicating she has no immediate plans for freelance work.

Joining TV Tokyo in 2001, Daikei made her mark as the first assistant on popular shows such as 'Let's Look for! Admatic Heaven' and 'Moyamoya Samazus 2', gaining much recognition for her work. She took on the role of main anchor for the economic news program 'WBS (World Business Satellite)' after returning to Japan from her tenure as the bureau chief in New York starting April 2013.

Privately, Daikei married the founder of Monex Securities, Masamoto Daisuke, in September 2014. Balancing her responsibilities as the main anchor for 'WBS' with managing their busy schedules meant the couple often struggled to find time together. They experienced days where even ten minutes of conversation proved difficult, especially with Daisuke's hectic travel schedule.

Due to subsequent reforms to their working lifestyle and her diminishing appearances on 'WBS', Daikei felt encouraged by her experience to start anew. She often expressed nostalgia, wishing she had spent more time living and enjoying the vibrant New York life, which was special to both her and her husband. It's noted among TV Tokyo contacts how deeply connected Daikei feels to New York, having consulted with her partner about her relocation there.

After her lessened responsibilities on the well-regarded business news program, Daikei clarified she'd like to savor personal experiences and cultural exchanges with Daisuke once her tenure concluded. They are both enthusiastic about enhancing their New York lifestyle through music, theater, and other cultural experiences.

Her husband, Daisuke, attended the recent listing ceremony of the cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck, part of the Monex Group, on the NASDAQ. Given his frequent trips to New York, Daikei's presence there is expected to provide solid support to her husband.

While TV Tokyo loses a valuable asset known for her popularity and visibility, Daikei has prioritized nurturing future talent at the network. The main anchors on 'WBS' now include Yuuka Arai from Monday to Thursday, alongside Hitomi Tanaka and Yuka Takezaki, who contribute on specific weekdays.

Understanding the delicate nature of economic reporting, Daikei made it a point to entrust her workload to her successor anchors, providing guidance and encouragement along the way. On days where new anchors expressed anxiety before broadcasts, Daikei reassured them, sharing experiences and promising to support them through any challenges.

Now, with her junior anchors flourishing thanks to her mentorship, Daikei appears ready to enjoy her well-deserved break, marking the next chapter of her life.
