San Marino Magic Festival Embraces Inclusion With Magica Gilly

The festival highlights diversity, featuring international magicians and local talent, including the first illusionist with Down syndrome.

San Marino is set to light up with the return of its International Magic Festival, slated for March 14-16, 2025, at the prestigious Palazzo dei Congressi Kursaal. This year's 26th edition marks the festival's ambitious goal of promoting inclusion and combating prejudice through the art of magic, promising performances and workshops aimed at audiences of all backgrounds.

The festival has garnered significant anticipation, not only for its outstanding array of magic acts but also for the inclusion of Magica Gilly (real name Giliana Flore), the first illusionist diagnosed with Down syndrome. Known for her heartwarming performances and as the daughter of artistic director Mago Gabriel, Gilly previously enchanted crowds at the Extremagia festival and is regarded as a beacon of inspiration worldwide.

Gilly's participation resonates deeply with the festival's mission: to demonstrate through magic the power of breaking down barriers. Her glorious return to her hometown for this unique opportunity highlights the importance of showcasing diverse talent and fostering a message of acceptance. According to Corriere Romagna, "This beloved art can be a key tool to combat bullying and promote inclusion," emphasizing the festival's purpose.

The festival will officially kick off on March 5 with a special preview event dedicated to the celebrated mentalist Gustavo Rol, offering audiences a taste of the enchanting experiences to follow. The Grand Gala on March 15 promises to be the highlight, featuring some of the biggest names and rising stars from the international magic scene. Audiences will be treated to performances by illusionists such as Marko Karvo from Finland, renowned for his visual illusions, and Hugues Protat from France, famed for his magical comedy.

Among the lineup is Theolexxy, also from France, known for combining modernity with breathtaking spectacle, and Olivier Henning, the magical prodigy from the Netherlands who transforms each gesture he makes on stage. Emerging talent from Italy will also shine, including Matteo Fraziano, who recently captured the hearts of many after his victory on Italian talent show Tu Si Que Vales.

On the 13th and 14th, festival-goers can deepen their appreciation for magic by attending immersive workshops and conferences, where aspiring magicians can learn advanced techniques and gather insights from these artistic powerhouses. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of performers, encouraging innovative paths within the magical arts.

The festival is made possible with the support of San Marino's state bodies, including the Secretariat of State for Tourism and the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, ensuring its continued significance within the region.

The International Magic Festival is more than just entertainment; it is about creating community and promoting values of empathy and kindness. By leveraging the universal language of magic, the festival seeks to share messages of hope and resilience, packaged within captivating performances.

By showcasing talent like Magica Gilly and fostering open dialogues through magic, San Marino's festival stands as proof of how art can unite and uplift, making it much more than just smoke and mirrors. It resonates with those who have historically felt on the margins, reminding them of the power found within community.

With all this buzz surrounding the festival's return, visitors and locals alike are eager to experience the spellbinding enchantment and heartwarming stories sure to emerge from this artistic celebration. Mark your calendars for 2025's most anticipated cultural event, and prepare to be transported to another world where magic reigns supreme.
