Crane Accident Injures Two In Maasbracht Industrial Area

A tower crane collapsed at a shipbuilding company, prompting an investigation into safety protocols.

On April 15, 2025, a serious accident involving a crane occurred in Maasbracht, Limburg, injuring two individuals. The incident took place around noon at the Tinnemans shipbuilding company located on the Industrieweg, near the port. According to the Limburg-Noord safety region, the crane, a tower model, broke in half, causing the upper part to crash onto the company grounds and a ship docked nearby.

At the time of the accident, one of the injured parties was the crane operator, who was approximately 15 meters above the ground inside the crane. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to rescue the operator, while a second person also sustained injuries. Both individuals were transported to a hospital in Maastricht for treatment, although the severity of their injuries remains unclear.

Images from the scene show the broken crane lying on the ship, with emergency services working diligently to manage the situation. A trauma helicopter was also called to assist with the medical response, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

By 1:00 PM, the safety region reported that the situation had stabilized. The remains of the crane were secured, eliminating any immediate danger to the area. A salvage company was engaged to recover the damaged crane, while the Arbeidsinspectie (Labor Inspection) announced an investigation into the cause of the crane's failure.

The exact purpose of the crane at the time of the accident is still under investigation, but it is known that it was being used in connection with work on a ship. Fortunately, no one aboard the ship was injured during the incident.

This accident has raised concerns regarding workplace safety in the construction and shipbuilding industries. The Labor Inspection's investigation aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the crane's failure, which could prompt changes in safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, local authorities and the community remain vigilant, hoping for a swift recovery for the injured parties. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with heavy machinery and the importance of adhering to safety protocols in industrial settings.

In the wake of the accident, representatives from the safety region have urged companies to review their safety measures and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and operated by trained personnel. The hope is that through increased awareness and stricter regulations, such accidents can be minimized.

As the story develops, further updates will be provided regarding the condition of the injured individuals and the findings of the Labor Inspection's investigation.
