Comedians Tsumami Edamame And Taka Clarify Duo Status Live

Two iconic entertainers share their history and bond on Fuji TV's beloved 'Pokapoka'

Takeshi Army's comedian Tsumami Edamame, 66, made waves during his appearance on Fuji TV's popular show 'Pokapoka' this morning, March 4, 2025. Joined by fellow Takeshi Army comedian Gadaruukanaru Taka, 68, the duo brought attention to their long-standing comedy partnership, Carnal Knuckle, clarifying they have not officially disbanded.

On this episode, Edamame and Taka were not alone; they appeared with their wives, Motoko Hashimoto, 57, and Tomomi Eguchi, 57. This unique line-up added personal warmth to the comedic banter and nostalgia shared on stage. Viewers were treated to video clips illustrating how the two comedians formed their duo, originating from their childhood friendship in Shizuoka's Izu region.

The segment highlighted their significant achievement as they reminisced about their time on the Nippon TV program 'Owarai Star Tanjo,' where they won gold after eight consecutive wins, cementing their stature within Japan's comedy scene. Edamame recounted their origins, stating, "We still have not officially disbanded!" sparking surprise among the younger audience members present, including show MCs High-Hi Iwai Yuuki and High-Hi Tawada Akira, both 38, who admitted they were unaware of the duo's history.

Taka's humorous response to Iwai's comment 'You didn’t know?' was met with laughter from the audience. The culture gap was acknowledged when Tawada reflected, "The younger generation probably doesn’t know."
Edamame chuckled as he addressed the confusion about the duo's status, underscoring the longevity of their partnership.

The comedic chemistry between Edamame and Taka shone through as they both joked about their beginnings. Taka shared how they stumbled upon the concept of their act, admitting, "Conte (sketch comedy) requires no technique—if the setup is right, it works even if the acting isn't perfect!" His candid insight revealed how their unique style became popular among fans.

This was reinforced when Black Mayonnaise comedian Kosugi Ryuuichi, 51, appeared on the show, lavishing praise on the wives of Edamame and Taka. Kosugi remarked, "I have heard of Carnal Knuckle, but viewing you guys, I must say, from our perspective, you are yankees!" Comically intimidated by Edamame's stare, he humorously exclaimed, "I’m scared, scared," illustrating both his admiration and fear of the duo.

Kosugi offered light-hearted commentary, questioning how Taka and Edamame manage to maintain their comedic charm, and when Edamame humorously explained, "This story is long, and not for sharing," the audience erupted with laughter.

Throughout these exchanges, the supportive bond between the comedians and their wives was palpable. Taka lightened the mood, playfully addressing Kosugi's comments, saying, "Kosugi-kun, you always say such things!" reinforcing the long-standing affection and respect her peers hold for one another.

This lively episode captured the essence of Japanese entertainment—where humor intertwines with deep appreciation for relationships, both on-screen and off. Edamame and Taka's dynamic demonstrated their unwavering camaraderie, fostering both laughter and nostalgia for audiences, bridging generations through the timeless art of comedy. With Carnal Knuckle's legacy firmly highlighted, the show paid homage to the power of comedy as both entertainment and connection.
