Coldplay Sets Record Attendance At Indian Concerts

A rare carnival glass vase also breaks auction records, selling for $250,000.

Coldplay has set the stage on fire yet again, this time shattering attendance records during their recent concerts across India. The British rock band performed three consecutive shows at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, followed by two nights at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26, 2025. Each of these concerts saw more than 130,000 fans pouring through the gates, marking it as the largest stadium concert of the 21st century.

Following its phenomenal tour, Coldplay expressed heartfelt gratitude to their Indian fans on social media, noting, "Thank you Ahmedabad, thank you India. We'll never forget these two weeks. Your love and kindness will stay with us forever." These remarks echoed the sentiments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who acknowledged the upsurge of live events contributing to the cultural fabric of India. He remarked, "The trend and demand for live events have grown tremendously. You must have seen the magnificent images from the Coldplay concerts held recently. It is testimony to the expansion of live music concerts in India."

Before these historic performances, Coldplay's largest audience was recorded at 83,000 attendees for their show in Sydney, Australia, back in November 2023. Despite their new record, the band clarified on social media they had not surpassed the all-time attendance record held by Italian singer Vasco Rossi, who attracted 225,000 attendees to his concert at Modena Park, Italy, back in 2017. It’s also worth mentioning the concerts led by Rod Stewart, which drew 3.5 million people during his 1994 performance in Rio de Janeiro.

The concert attendance achievements have bolstered Coldplay’s overall profile as they gear up for their continued tour, with upcoming concerts slated for Hong Kong and Seoul, before making their way to the United States later this year. There’s much speculation on whether Coldplay, with its current momentum, might also surpass the revenue milestone of $2.08 billion set by Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, making it the most lucrative tour ever, as they continue to grab the spotlight on the international music scene.

Meanwhile, the collectible world buzzed with excitement following the record-breaking sale of a carnival glass vase at Dexter City Auction. This rare cobalt blue vase set off fireworks at the auction, fetching $250,000, thereby establishing itself as the most expensive piece of carnival glass ever sold.

The vase was discovered by two individuals who had purchased the contents of a hoarder house as part of their efforts to repurpose the space. The couple initially priced the vase modestly at $25, but after expert examination suggested it could be worth significantly more, they turned to Randy Clark, the auctioneer at Dexter City Auction Gallery. Clark was immediately struck by the vase's rarity and historical significance—it was the ninth known piece of its kind, according to company records. Clark explained, "I got the call and asked them to send pictures... when I saw the pictures, I immediately knew what they had."

On auction day, excitement was palpable as bidders from across the country vied for this astonishing piece. The auction commenced with bids starting at $100,000, rapidly climbing past the $200,000 mark, as bidders fought fiercely for this unique item. The victorious bidder, Chris Sieverdes, founder of the Millersburg Glass Museum, secured the vase for $250,000, with the final price tallying up to $275,000 after including the buyer’s premium. With this sale, the vase has now moved on to its home at the Millersburg Glass Museum, where it captures the awe of its visitors.

The previous record for carnival glass was held by a punch bowl set from Wheeling, West Virginia, which was sold for $175,000, making this vase’s final price both significant and historic for the world of collectibles. Clark’s enthusiasm for the vase extended to the creation of unpacking videos, which invited glass lovers and collectors to experience this remarkable find together. That video went on to gather over 60,000 views on Facebook, demonstrating the community's shared excitement.

With extraordinary records being set left and right, 2025 is shaping up to be quite the year for both the entertainment and collectibles industries. The momentum of Coldplay's tour is unmatched, and the groundbreaking sale at the Dexter City Auction signals strong interest among collectors, showcasing how rare finds can yield incredible returns. Clearly, the thrill of achievement and discovery fuels both concert halls and auction floors, leaving fans and collectors alike eager for what's next.
