Coffee Shops And Restaurants Make Moves Across U.S.

Form & Function, GameOn, and La Esperanza relocate to meet community demands and growth potential.

Business relocations and announcements are stirring the local scenes across various U.S. cities, with notable moves from coffee shops and restaurants shaking up the culinary and social landscapes.

One significant transition is the coffee shop Form & Function, which is set to take over the current location of Coffee and Supply on N Echohawk Way in Eagle, Idaho. Scott Seward, the owner of Form & Function, shared how they had their eyes on the Eagle and Nampa areas for some time. "We’ve always had our eyes open toward the Eagle and Nampa areas," Seward stated, underlining his personal connection to the locale; he grew up in Nampa, and his wife hails from Eagle. The current operators of Coffee and Supply will remain open until February 28, with Form & Function officially taking over on March 1.

Seward has plans to undertake some renovations at the new Eagle location, but he assured fans of the coffee shop: they won't have to wait long for their caffeine fix. A Form & Function truck will be stationed out front during the transition period, ensuring the coffee keeps flowing even as renovations proceed. While he aims to retain the general layout, he mentioned plans for new furniture and a refreshing coat of paint to embody the "light and airy Form & Function vibe." He added, "It’ll be very similar to what we have at our other locations, with the exception of being able to pull in some of Coffee and Supply’s existing vendors," highlighting the opportunity to blend both establishments' offerings.

Meanwhile, excitement builds for the new District Coffee House drive-thru location, which Seward also feeds as he confirmed permits for the drive-thru-only site at 6935 W Overland Rd. in Boise, expected to open soon. "We want to really make it a spot for the community to hang out and to come take a break," he expressed, envisioning the new drive-thru as more than just another coffee stop.

Over on the East Coast, GameOn bar and arcade has announced its closure of the Federal Hill location. Through social media, they communicated to the public, "We have loved our time in Baltimore but will be closing our Fed Hill location at the end of the March." GameOn operates two other venues, which will remain open, as they search for more substantial accommodations within the Baltimore/DC area. To mark the occasion, they are planning an "Everything Must Go" event on Saturday, March 29, inviting patrons for one last hurrah. Retro games like Ms. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat 2 have filled the space, and it seems they want to send the bar out with style.

Another interesting pivot is La Esperanza, one of South Bend's oldest Mexican restaurants, which has recently moved to its new downtown location after nearly 30 years at the same spot. Reopening at The Ivy at Berlin Place, owners Monica and Daniel Guzman cited declining business at their old location as part of the motivation behind the move. "We chose to close over there and open here because of the proximity of downtown," Monica Guzman explained. They count on the support of the stadium, managed by Andrew Berlin, as pivotal for their success. The transition, though not small, is seen as rewarding for the Guzmans, who have dedicated years to their restaurant, founded by Monica's father.

With these moves, the common theme of seeking larger or more favorable locations has emerged, reflecting broader trends and demands within varying communities. Businesses are not only reshaping their physical spaces but are also adapting to community needs, ensuring continuity and commitment to their customers. This responsive approach is marked by the coffee continuations at Form & Function, the celebratory send-off planned by GameOn, and the advantageous positioning of La Esperanza to capture new patrons.

Both new and relocating businesses contribute to the dynamic energy of their respective neighborhoods, providing familiar comforts and novel experiences alike, as the patrons await their new local favorites.
