Cities Across Russia Prepare For Immortal Regiment Procession

Yaroslavl, Abakan, and Novosibirsk set for significant commemorations on Victory Day.

As the world prepares to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, cities across Russia are gearing up for the annual 'Immortal Regiment' procession, a poignant event honoring the sacrifices of those who fought in the Great Patriotic War. This year, the procession will take place in various cities, including Yaroslavl, Abakan, and Novosibirsk, with each location hosting unique activities and gatherings.

In Yaroslavl, the 'Immortal Regiment' will commence on May 9, 2025, at 11:15 AM. Participants are expected to gather at 10:00 AM, with the march covering a distance of 2 to 2.5 kilometers along Soviet Street. The head of the column will form near Pobeda Street, heading towards the turning ring at the Shinny plant. Approximately 350 volunteers will accompany the procession to ensure safety and organization. According to local authorities, all participants must pass through a security checkpoint and are prohibited from bringing liquids, sharp objects, flammable materials, narcotics, or any weapons. The city administration has advised against bringing large bags or pets, emphasizing the need for minimal personal items during the event.

Additionally, for those unable to attend in person, an online participation option will be available. A live broadcast is scheduled to start at 12:00 PM on the same day, allowing people to join remotely. Traffic restrictions will be in place in the city center, and electric scooters will not be allowed on certain streets during the event.

Meanwhile, in Abakan, the procession will take place along Shchetinkina and Lenina streets, starting at 12:30 PM. Participants are required to gather and form columns beginning at 10:30 AM, with entry to the formation site accessible through a checkpoint on Pushkina Street. Similar to Yaroslavl, strict security measures will be enforced, including prohibitions on liquids, cutting tools, gas cylinders, and any weapons. Furthermore, participants must avoid bringing metallic objects, and the use of quadcopters is banned.

In Novosibirsk, the event will kick off with the formation of the 'Immortal Regiment' at 9:00 AM on May 9, 2025, at Oktyabrskaya Magistral, 3. The procession is expected to begin around 10:45 to 10:55 AM, following a parade that features an enlarged copy of the Victory Banner and other significant military banners. The procession will proceed through Lenin Square and Krasny Prospekt, culminating at the House of Officers, where a festive military-patriotic program will be held. The first 'Immortal Regiment' event in the Novosibirsk region took place in 2014, and the most significant turnout was recorded in 2022, with over 12 million participants nationwide.

The 'Immortal Regiment' movement aims to preserve the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, celebrating their bravery and the sacrifices made for the nation. In the Novosibirsk region alone, more than 60,000 events are planned to honor the 80th anniversary of Victory, showcasing the deep respect and remembrance held by the community.

As the date approaches, cities are finalizing their preparations to ensure a respectful and organized remembrance of those who fought for freedom. The 'Immortal Regiment' continues to be a powerful symbol of national pride and collective memory, uniting generations in honoring the past.
