Chibimaruko-chan Marks 35th Anniversary With Special Broadcast

The one-hour New Year special features nostalgic episodes and iconic songs celebrating three decades of the beloved anime.

The beloved anime series Chibimaruko-chan is gearing up to celebrate its 35th anniversary with a special one-hour program titled "Thank You! Chibimaruko-chan Animation 35th Anniversary New Year Special," which is set to air on January 5 from 6 PM to 7 PM.

This highly anticipated program will consist of three episodes: "Maruko Becomes the Drifters," "Tamachan's Father's First Dream," and "Singing! Chibimaruko-chan Song Festival." Each segment promises to deliver both nostalgia and entertainment, engaging fans of all ages.

One of the standout episodes, "Maruko Becomes the Drifters," showcases the main characters—Maruko, Hamaji, Kosugi-kun, Fujiki-kun, and Ohno-kun—as they imitate the popular comedy group The Drifters by forming their own group called the "3-4 (Class 3-4) Drifters." This humorous tribute features the characters preparing for their performance, reflecting both the direct inspirations from the iconic group and the fun, carefree spirit of childhood.

Another episode, "Tamachan's Father's First Dream," centers on Tamachan's father who believes he has been told by a spirit not to take photographs of his daughter if he wishes for good fortune. Maruko and her friend Tomizo decide to help him by offering to have their own pictures taken, showcasing themes of friendship and support amid whimsical situations.

The final segment, "Singing! Chibimaruko-chan Song Festival," promises to be exciting as Maruko and Tomizo sing the catchy "Tentōmushi no Samba," alongside various famous songs from the 1970s, affirming the show's connection to cultural history through music.

Following the recording, cast member Kokoro Kikuchi, who voices Maruko, expressed her excitement, saying, "Singing 'Tentōmushi no Samba' was quite challenging for my character's voice, but I hope everyone sings along and enjoys our performances! My favorite part was the interactions between the characters, particularly with Ikariya Chōsuke-san and Fujiki-kun. I hope audiences find joy watching this special, as it marks the first airing of our programs since reaching the 35th anniversary."

Shin Shida, who plays Maruko’s grandfather, added, "This one-hour special truly encapsulates the spirit of Chibimaruko-chan. We have nostalgic songs, unique stories, and heartwarming moments. It’s like celebrating 35 years of delightful memories and fun!"

Throughout the show's history, Chibimaruko-chan has been known for its portrayal of daily life arrangements and the universe of children, which resonates strongly with viewers, making it one of the most beloved animated shows in Japan.

This special episode is expected to attract old and new fans alike, with its heartwarming storylines reflecting its enduring appeal. Chibimaruko-chan is not only revered for its humor but also for its ability to instill life lessons and cultural references, keeping the audience engaged over decades.

With the 35th-anniversary special airing on January 5 at 6 PM, fans are eager to tune in for this celebration of joy, laughter, and music. Under the direction of Sakura Production and Nihon Animation, it promises to be yet another cherished chapter for Maruko and friends.
