Charles-De Gaulle Bridge Closes For Weekend Repairs

Significant road closures to impact Montreal-Terrebonne traffic during January repair work.

Montreal drivers should prepare for significant disruptions to their travel plans this weekend as the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable announces necessary closures at the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge, which connects Montreal and Terrebonne. Scheduled to begin on January 10 and running through January 13, these closures are part of continuing repair work initiated last year.

Starting on Friday, January 10, the following closures will be implemented:

  • A complete closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 40 at exit 89 (R-138/Boul. du Tricentenaire/Rue Sherbrooke/Boul. Henri-Bourassa), from 11:00 PM until 6:30 AM.

  • The exit 92 (Gouin Boulevard) and exit 94 (R-344/Terrebonne/Ch. Saint-Charles) will also be closed during this period.

  • Additionally, starting at 9:30 PM, the eastbound service road along Highway 40 will be completely closed, as will the access ramp from Henri-Bourassa Boulevard East to the service road.

The closures won’t just affect drivers on January 10. From 6:30 AM on Saturday, January 11 to 5:00 AM on Monday, January 13, the left lane of eastbound Highway 40 will be closed between Gouin Boulevard East and Route 344 (Saint-Charles Road). Notably, all westbound lanes will remain open throughout the weekend.

The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable advises all drivers to be cautious as they navigate through the construction zones. There will be speed restrictions, reducing the limit to 70 km/h to safeguard both road users and construction crews.

Repair work on the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge has been underway since November, and the current closures aim to facilitate the completion of these necessary repairs. "Les travaux pourraient être reportés, prolongés ou annulés en raison de conditions météorologiques défavorables ou de contraintes opérationnelles," according to the transportation ministry.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes carefully and check real-time updates through Quebec's 511 service, which provides valuable information about road conditions and closures. The ministry expresses gratitude to road users for their continued cooperation and stresses the importance of adhering to the posted signs for safety during this construction period.

For any questions or comments, residents can reach out to the ministry at 511 or visit their website at Quebec.ca/joindre-ministère-transports. The ministry reminds everyone to stay informed and allow for extra travel time during these disruptions.
