Instead, the imperative is to secure maximum points, hence pushing teams toward a more aggressive, proactive style of play.
He elaborated on the shift, noting how the previous structure allowed teams to adopt more conservative tactics, but with the new directives, teams must look to dominate. He remarked, “Before, many draws would have been enough, but now we have to win.”
This transformation is not without its challenges. Players are already feeling the pressure of added matches with many expressing concerns over increased fatigue. Atletico’s tactician seems undeterred and firmly believes this heightened competition will lead to more engaging football for the fans. Simeone remarked, reflecting on another match, “I saw the Liverpool versus AC Milan game, which was dynamic and entertaining. We can see a more entertaining Champions League for people because all the teams need to win—draws are only good for you up to a certain point, so we will have to compete hard.”
