Residents and visitors of Mexico City are urged to pay attention to public transportation schedules on December 24 and 25 during Christmas celebrations. The Secretaría de Movilidad capitalina (SEMOVI) has announced adjusted timings for the Metro, Metrobús, Trolebús, Cablebús, and other public transport systems enabling smooth travel during these festive days.
On December 24, the Metro will operate with special holiday hours, starting at 5:00 AM and closing at 11:00 PM, which is one hour earlier than its regular schedule. The last train departures will occur around 10:30 PM from each terminal. Commuters planning to travel on Christmas Eve should prepare for potentially high passenger volumes during peak hours, especially on busy lines like Line 1, Line 2, and Line 3.
For those preferring the Metrobús, service will begin at 4:30 AM and end at 11:00 PM on the same day. On December 25, the Metrobús will run from 5:00 AM to midnight, providing ample time for travelers heading to family gatherings or holiday events.
The Trolebús, another key component of the city's transport network, will adjust its schedule as well. On December 24, it will be available from 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM, and on Christmas Day, it will operate from 6:00 AM until 11:30 PM. Passengers are encouraged to check their travel routes as adjustments may lead to longer waiting times.
The Cablebús service will also have modified hours: it will run from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM on the 24th and from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM on the following day, aligning with the need for safe and efficient transportation as families gather to celebrate.
Additional services like RTP will operate on December 24 from 5:00 AM to midnight and on December 25 from 7:00 AM to midnight. Other bike-sharing services such as Ecobici will be available with extended hours, running from 5:00 AM until 12:30 AM on both days, ensuring diverse options for mobility are accessible to the public.
Héctor Ulises García Nieto, the Secretary of Mobility, emphasizes the importance of planning trips in advance and being aware of the adjusted schedules to prevent any disruptions during holiday gatherings. He stated, "Las autoridades recomendaron planificar los traslados con antelación y tomar en cuenta estos horarios para evitar contratiempos en las reuniones navideñas," stressing the need for travelers to inform themselves of changes.
With these adjustments, Mexico City's public transportation systems seek to accommodate the influx of travelers as families reunite to celebrate one of the most important seasons of the year. Whether traveling for Christmas dinners or late-night festivities, being informed will help residents and tourists alike navigate the city with ease.
Authorities have taken these steps to support the mobility needs of the community during the holiday season, and they encourage everyone using public transport to remain patient as they adhere to these new schedules. Wishing all residents and visitors happy holidays, with hopes for safe travels across the city this festive season.
